I noticed the IHRA Sportsman class was won by a Tesla car at PBIR this year. I’m guessing stock. I know they are quick, but apparently very consistent.

Emani'm sure many won't like this, I thought I was a sanctioning body making a separate class for EV's.

They should IMO. There are two ends of the track for bracket racing. When you introduce technology that gives a clear advantage in one area, you run them by themselves. Like delay boxes.

Bingo Bucky! They are just scratching the surface with this. Furthermore the new FS cars have the ability also.. so who can Police this?

SS427IMPTeslas are deadly consistent in any air, any track.
Driver only has to cut a light to win.
Practically zero maintenance as well.

Joe BurkleoIt is going to be very interesting to see how all of this plays out. There is no way to add in the amount of electronic controls available in a Tesla to a early Chevelle, Nova, Mustang, Cuda..etc.
If they are going to allow them to compete in a true Sportsman footbrake class then you may as well allow a full array of electronics including traction control in Sportsman as well.
It's just a matter of time before a Tesla starts showing up in Super Street or Super Gas and going rounds.

Teslas running 9.2X now, some would qualify for Super Comp here.

SlyFoxNo noise, no smell of fuel and exhaust - where is the fun in an electric car?

PBIR points standingsYou have to open the file. Sportsman points standings after Race #11 are about three quarters of the way down. Take care. Tom Worthington
If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

Maybe people will look at the round by round results which are also included in the file.

Yea I looked and I’m not impressed. I saw tighter packages by hundreds of cars at the SFG race last week at Darlington.

CURTIS REEDI wish they would include the time trial info. I see many times the 3X33 car was driving the stripe. The 8X08 car doesn't seem as good as the other but I was looking at all of the No-Box races and not the Sportsman. They run both classes.

RPROGASThe problem that I see with electric cars like the Tesla is that their operating systems are all controlled electronically, in fact you could probably sit back and have the car drive it's self to the stripe and run a dread on with a zero. If those same type electronic/computer systems are not allowed in normal (gas) bracket or index cars why would you allow them to run against those cars?
This becomes an ethical issue.

imakehpBob, Is Barona still open and running regularly?
I liked racing there except I couldn't keep my front wheels out of the sand there. Since half my runs there the parachute was just laying on the ground unopened after the run, I'm thinking of putting a large 140 mph chute on the car and trying it again. Anything changed there in the last few years?

I don't know specifically about the Plaid Model S (it's supposed to have more consistent output across the power band and charge level), but Tesla cars generally lose power depending on the charge percentage. Yes, they have excellent traction control, but a gas or alcohol powered drag car should be much more consistent in a practical race situation because drag strips don't have charging stations. I haven't raced my Tesla primarily because none of the tracks in our area are anywhere close to a charging point - even at 100 percent battery when leaving home, I'm going to be at 80 or 85 percent when I get to MIR or Holly Springs and I'm already down on power.
Electric cars are the last thing a drag racer should worry about - the biggest threat to this industry is increasing property values resulting in new houses on top of burn out boxes.
Edit: also, outside of a few YouTubers - these cars aren't really being modified on the software level on a significant basis - touching the firmware is verboten.
