I see this from time to time & I assume it has something to do with RT. Why do some people like white out the chrome or polished front wheels. I see some people like cover the wheel with a solid object. I have heard people comment about some wheel designs with large gaps between the spokes. Is there anything to this or just perception by the driver

This is done to assure that the starting line light beams are not interrupted prematurely by virtue of giving the beams a path thru the wheel openings or a reflection from the mirror effects of the wheel.
