Just about 24 hours in on day one without my trusty Skoal. Been about as tough as I thought it would be,and that's with the help of a nicotine patch. Hopefully I can report in a week or so with good news that it's getting easier. Sure wish I had never tried it to start with.

You can do it --- I stopped smoking cold turkey 60 years ago on a $100 bet that I could not quit for 6 months. Have never smoked since. You can do it.

I quit drinking in 1987 and quit smoking in 1988. Smoking was harder for me to do.

The thing about that since it was so hard for me to quit I feel much better about that accomplishment.

My friends who did not quit are dropping like flies now and I do not think I would be here today if I had not quit.

And many of those people who do smoke look 20 years older than those who do not.

I am not going to tell you it is easy, it is not. But it is very serious and will kill you.

You can do it and in fact you really should do it.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

You can do this, I quit snowing at 20 and it was easy as my best friends dad died of lung cancer at 46. Those lessons in life come hard, I still have a friend three months older than me that’s still smokin and he looks 15 years older than me. The best thing you can do just get off smoking, I still drink if you can call that. Less than a 12 pack per year and maybe four shots after every big win! Haha

My folks smoked when I was younger. Eventually quit.
I never understood the difficulty with quitting.
But as I age, dieting is more and more difficult. I kinda understand addictions now.

The last few days I have been doing a little research on tobacco. It says in one can of Skoal snuff there is around 140 mil of nicotine which is equal to the amount in 4 packs of cigarettes. No wonder it's difficult to quit, but I am determined to make this happen.

I will say, after losing so many friends and family members, to lung and throat cancer, there is nothing good about tobacco. The tobacco companies add tons of chemicals, to it now, so its more additive, for the profits.
I say that as a previous user too.

You have to put in the effort, to get anything out of it.

Well, made it through the work week without much of an issue which is great. Between no tobacco this week and no Diet DP in a few weeks my body doesn't know if it's washing or hanging out. Have a great weekend everyone.

Mints. Get a crave, put a mint in. Altoids, Icebreakers, anything long lasting will help.

While I have never been a smoker, this has to be a true statement. My Mother simply couldn't kick the habit. My brother smoked Pall Mall and Camels and that was back before those sissy filters came out. If he could break the habit then YOU can! He's 75 yo has COPD / asthma carries an inhaler, etc. So know that there is a price to be paid the longer you delay.

I quit smoking 44 years ago, cold turkey. My daughter had breathing problems that I felt were due to my smoking and we had a new baby. Goodbye smokes.

It was easy. Losing the weight from 50 pounds of lemon drops, not so much.

This week I bought 2 large boxes of toothpicks, one for work and one for home. They seem to keep me occupied so far. Really trying not to substitute sweets or food to replace my addiction. If I were to put on 50 lbs I would have to sell the Sunfire and go Tractor pulling or something because I am already 250 plus. Smile

I started carrying a little pocket knife years and years ago

When I needed something to fiddle with instead of a cigarette and a lighter, I played with the pocket knife. It kept my hands occupied. Anytime I had the urge to smoke, I reached for my pocket knife instead.

I still carry pocket knives and fiddle with one pretty often when I’m not doing anything.

These days though like everyone else, I’m looking at my Iphone pretty often.

Just another addiction ! A lot less harmful than smoking!

Cumulative is the most important word.

Smoking and other vices or bad habits effects are CUMULATIVE !

Takes time but usually ends up doing harm you can’t reverse !
