Since we have a most memorable win thread, how about a most painful loss thread?

I'll start.

When we were running T/AD in the early 90's I went to the final at the 93 Citrus Nationals at Moroso Motorsports Park, which was my home track. This was back when it was somewhat of a big race. My opponent was Marty Thacker, who later went on to be a top runner in the class. But at that time he was not there yet and we had him covered by a more than a tenth. I was all hyped up and went red, handing him the win. Neither one of us knew I went red, as we were climbing out of the cars he came over and congratulated me, just about then we heard his tow vehicle coming with the horn blaring and crew yelling. That's when we both found out the he got the win.

That one still stings to this day.

But I was able to redeem myself the following weekend at the Snowbird Nationals by picking up the W......

I was in a $5k final at Cecil County Dragway years ago. I had to run Sterling Clough, he was in the right, I was in the left lane. I was dialed 10.9 something and leaving first all day. Well, he pulls up next to me and points to his dial, I give him a thumbs up and pull into the water box. We do our burnouts and stage, his top bulb comes on first. Fk me, he was dialed 11.24 not 10.24. Dumb ass.

I forgot to put in his dial and cross in the final.

He came up to me after the race, smacked me on the back of the head and said, "dummy, I pointed to the dial." lol

I have many but the one that I would say was the most painful

RD 1 S/C at a Div 1 Lucas Race....2004

Lost by .0006 I think it was

Me RT .010 8.903
Opponent RT .009 8.904 One of the best racers on the planet....

I rocked my right foot off the gas to maybe 1/2 a pedal at the stripe....

I told him after the run......That's why you are number one.....and his reply was you would have won just about any other round with that package....but luck was on his side right there...

It's always good to lose early and save fuel and wear and tear though.....

We had fun anyway....but it did suc!

it is the flip of my favorite win.

2016 southern nationals at atlanta. had to run dan fletcher in the final of super street. the plan was to bust his azz. went 5 thou red in the final to his sh1tty lap. I think I threw up in my helmet when it went red.

I think I was either 99 or 100 win for him in national finals. he a good racer but he dodged an azz whipping by 5 thou. he aint won 100 for nothing I guess. props to him.

ep-still mad about that one.

Dont remember the year, but it was around 2001 I think. We went up to Grand Bend for the IHRA National Event as I had been doing decent in the points that year. Rained pretty much the whole time - miserable weather. I think we got one qualifying lap early in the event and then sat around until Sunday evening for waiting on the weather to clear.

I staged for first round and believe I let go low .00. Stop goes on and immediately turns back off. Uh Oh... I drive my ass off on the top end just to get behind a few thousands on what was basically a non throttle stop run. Realize on the return road I put the wrong off time in and was basically turning off a 0.2xx instead of 2.xx. Doh.

Long ass drive home after that and was still in High School so had to make it in time....

1 I am with you Curtis. I hate losing any round. first or last round.

2 I have done exactly what you did Head. that a sick feeling.

3 retow. fletcher was no where close to .00 anything. I am quite sure I wanted to bust him more than he wanted to bust me. I suppose his name recognition caused me to get up on the wheel .010 to much. you'll have that.

I was in my roadster in El Paso one night. I think we're down to four cars left and I have my nemesis Bob Archut in his dragster. I've been killing the tree and I just know I'm gonna finally kick his butt. I can feel it in my bones!

A 64 Dodge is in front of me and dumps the entire contents of his Torqueflite on the starting line.

We are in the water box and Bob just looks over at me and smiles. 30 minutes of clean up later we stage, car goes sideways and Bob just drives away for the win. Mad

09 or 10 presidents cup running super rod. I was on kill all weekend. Everything was working for that weekend. I drove the stripe when I needed to, hit the tree and made good calls on the numbers for the stop. I have a bye to the semis. Run a 91 flat out on the solo hit. Im running Cameron manual in the semis. I stage and hit the transbrake button and the thing rolls through the beams. I was sick the whole ride down the track. Im sure ihra wasn't too eased with how long it took me to get off the track

For me, the last one is always the one that hurts especially when you’re 1000+ miles from home. Here’s the latest. Jeff Verdi was in the right lane.

No one who ever put the effort into it, ever regretted it.

No pain no gain.

Most painful loss, ever .

A .399 red light in the semi finals at Pomona, while the other car could not cover the number (10.04). Same guy broke in the final, staged but never left the starting line while the other guy failed to notice and went under with a 9.82.

I drew him at the first Divisional race at Bakersfield the next season, he was the runner-up in that round.

Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you.

The only war I ever lost was to corrupt track officials.

You're talking battles, there's no pain in losing battles, there's only pain in losing wars.

I never lost a war, and I came into the last race behind, four times.

The battles are the prelim to the war. The war is for the championship. Nobody won more 41 race Super Pro wars at Sunshine, than I did.

The only war I ever lost is the only war Trump ever lost, to official corruption.

First round in National Championship in Pomona 2018. I did something really, really stupid. I was .005 and going dead on, but I did something stupid to mess it up (no, I'm not saying what) Such a bonehead!

2019 Division 2 ET finals, final round. Opponent was backing into me and I was dialed honest. I tagged the brake right before the stripe killing about .01. He must have done the same or just misjudged me because he got there by .003. Car was going low dead on. Duh!!! (I learned a lot on this run - several lessons I will NEVER forget)

Both of these almost made me vomit in my helmet!

These local tracks don't have the luxury of a 41 race championship with a 100 Super Pro cars every Friday night, do you know why?

Because your elected officials offshored the American jobs to china.

Not enough locals have the wherewithal (money) for 41 races.

Fact.

They'll squeeze the life out of the little that's left too, right out from under your noses and give you some BS story you'll believe. Watch and see.

I've been sitting back watching this unravel for years now, like the banks with their creative financing to keep the ponzi alive, these tracks gotta get creative to keep the doors open, so ya got no prep going the wrong way on the track and house cars.

Not a damn thing wrong with house cars until officials invent stories to put them back in races 45 minutes after loaded up ,tied down and shut the door originally declared loser.

Also known as creative bullchit.

So keep a good eye out for the creative bullchit, when your at the track.

A word to the wise.
