I've been looking around for a new truck. I've just about decided on a new F-350 with the 7.3. my question is, do I spring for a dually (which from the heart I really want but question it's practicality) or not? Both would be crew cab, long bed trucks and would be my daily driver. Currently it would tow at worst my 28 footer with my dragster in it, though eventually I would like a set up to pull my dragster and door car. Which would you choose and why?

He!! Yeah! Cool! I’ve had both. Both were great but if you want stability and more gvwr for later then yes a dually. I use mine as a daily driver and I love it. Great fuel economy and comfort. Since I’ve retired it doesn’t get the miles .. California Screaming! Raceless in California!

I've been debating getting a 3500 dually/single rear. All my planning is around retirement racing. The dually will fit in our over length over width garage. That we actually use for a garage, LOL. I'm fortunate to have a 1.5 acre lot with a 20' x 34' shop & a 10' x 20' well house (mainly used for storage). Anyway, I wanted a 40' goose neck trailer with a bathroom package, but I'm settling for a 34' tag bathroom package. So, a dually would be ideal for the tag. It will come down to the best deal for dually or single rear. Either way it will be Dodge or GM (semi-american), however you wish to call it. 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3000 lbs. Pump Gas 436

My daily driver gets 40 mpg. I drive the dually on rainy days.

Your new truck will have a 6.7 diesel. The last year for the 7.3 was 2002? The 6.7 is a beast but can't catch the Cummins on mileage. JB

Hey Ed, does your truck have air bags? Looks nice.

No it doesn't Bill, just factory 7500 lb. IIRC, springs. With the GMC/Chevy line of full size trucks, there are 3 different spring rates depending on model, 2500, 3500 SRW and 3500 Dually

Nice truck Ed, is there a specific reason you went single rear wheel?

thanks. just more practical, it's also my daily driver. If it's not going to be your daily driver and only used for towing, buy the dually, it's the same price as the 3500 SRW. Besides, you probably won't find a 3500 SRW sitting on a dealers lot, I ordered mine.

From what I've found shopping around, anything but ram is going to have me ordering. Most of the trucks in my area have 10k + in options that I just don't care for.

I have never purchased a new car or truck off the lot, I want what I want and ordered all 10 cars/trucks I have purchased new starting in 1986 with my first Corvette. They've all been GM except the Jeep I purchased 10 months ago.

Ed I forgot yours was a 34' with the long tongue. Most of the DP, particularly with the tag axle are 40' or longer. I'm not legal with the 28' in my state with the motorhome. I will say manuvering in tighter areas for pits can be challenging. And frankly, the images in the mirrors 70' back are pretty small. Just things to think about if you ever go that direction. I would really like a 32' some day. But just that much further back. The 7.3 gas does look like a proper engine if a person wants to stay gas. Of course I figured the same for the 8.1L, and that went away. Foxtrot Juliet Bravo
