one advantage of the wrap....if by chance you manage to put a pretty good dent in the body and the paint under it cracks....you can't see the crack under the wrap. You'll still be equally pissed off however. Frown

Gee I guess I qualify for junk. Just stating you woudl be surprised what can be done with a wrap. Hell you can clear coat it if you so choose. Having said that we have NEVER wrapped anything an always paint our stuff. Most people are truly shocked at just the cost of materials for a "show quality" paint job. Hell clears can run into the thousands of dollars a gallon.

Oh yeah this was paint, know all to well whats involved. This one was good enough for Duponts calendar a dozen years ago so we get it.

I've already seen wraps here cost as much and sometimes more than a paint job.....

I like a car with a base paint job, like one color, as mine is...gives you the option of adding stuff to it like striping, etc., and the ability to change it later if desired for less cost than a complete redo......but that's just me...

can't find anybody out here that paints cars

can find plenty that will do insurance jobs they are everywhere!

but a painter? Good luck.

I found one. Had two cars done they came out awesome. Third car set there a year until I got tired of the lack of communication, excuses, and then the lies and deceit, and picked it up. Now I have to take him to court to recover the money I paid him to do it, with very little done....and I have to pay someone else to finish it. Nightmare. And finding someone to finish a halfway done job is even harder than finding one that will do the whole job start to finish. That's this area.

So be careful. Wraps can be nice. I may have my truck wrapped.

I'm glad some of you have the budget for what you do. I don't. And I hate when I see guys say "your stuff sucks because you didn't have the money for perfection".

Ed right on one part anyway. If I had the cash I would go all out with bada$$ paint job using our Starr Rider scheme. If frogs had wings their butt wouldn't be sore and mine hurts like every other joint in my body lately.

I even gave thought to taking up painting. Problem is know how hard I am to please and harder to please myself. The cost of education would far exceed the cost of the paint job. Especially with cost of materials nowadays, washing a pint job off onto floor because it did not suit me woul get stupid costly.

Al Alguire, Paint on you ride is bad azz. It fits that body style so well. I am old and retired from collision as I did both paint work and major damage for 45 years. As you stated correctly the cost of materials its self (no labor) astounds almost everybody.

There are several reasons folks use wraps. If you have a very complicated design, or incorporate sponsors into the design, that is very difficult to paint. Availability of able painters is another. Paint also takes a LOT more time. And durability can be another factor. If you use your race car as a tool to win rounds and races, it can be out every weekend and putting down a lot of passes. And lots of maintenance work may be part of that. Chances for scratches and minor abrasions on pretty paint jobs can break your heart. Sure I like the car to look nice. But it doesn't need to be a show car. To say that anyone who uses a wrap can't afford paint, well just isn't at all true. And this is from a guy with paint on his car.

I agree 100% Bucky !!!

And to all the wrap haters who love show quality paint jobs ........... Have your race cars professionally lettered with all those sponsors logo's over that show quality paint then bury that artwork under a few coats of clear like it should be, Don't cheap out Razz
Vinyl has no place over that big $$$ show quality paint job Full Moon

PS ...... I'm not a wrap lover whatsoever but they do a serve a purpose, and I've seen quite a few I like.

I'm wondering who made the rule that race cars need show quality paint.

Obviously, Roger, Its a JOISEY rule, that has been in effect for some time.

I love a nice deep paint job on a car, as much as anyone else, but there are places for vinyl wraps.
Good material and good quality application, gives a nice look, vinyl or paint. Each have their place.

You have to put in the effort, to get anything out of it.

This /\ /\ /\ /\ He is right you know.

I think paint usually looks better but for those who have Sponsors and may be changing or adding more each year the wrap is the cheapest and easiest way to quickly change. And a wrap does look pretty good just not show car. We have all seen some pretty bad paint jobs on racecars to. So wraps has its place. I had considered a wrap on my dragster to see if I liked the design before going with more permanent paint scheme. You get what you want.

I'd say more dragsters with show quality paint jobs like ours are winning than dragsters with wraps Spitting

Take it from somebdoy that has been wrapping dragsters for 10 years. Paint a base color on it, then add the vinyl that you want. Per obligations i have to change the wrap every 2-3 seasons, but by end of 3rd season, wrap is trying to draw up and peel around edges. And i dont care what anybody says, i REFUSE to spend 10k for a paint job on a dragster. I dont need or want that notch in my belt.

I had wraps on the miller dragster and it looked great and couldn't tell it was a wrap, I got the corvette wrapped and you could tell but it was great at 5 feet, the new dragster is paint and it looks absolutely amazing. Just depends on what you are looking for and cost. If you want a show car then get paint, if you just want some color on the car then get a wrap. Just remember, if the body is F'd up underneath it will show through a wrap just like it would with paint.
