Need to get up to speed on the market:
I have a 2004 four link dragster built locally. Been a great car but I’m moving to a new one.
I listed it on marketplace and most of the racing groups I’m on for $10.500

Wing, mega 450 and dial board, beadlocks, no engine, trans or ignition. Containment pan. Well taken care of but it’s over 20 years old.

Am I out to lunch or is the market just real soft?

I've seen similar cars listed for around 15k. tb, you might be under market value. If it's not a name brand or trusted builder, you may be spot on. Also if it's eaten up with runs you might be in good shape on price too.

As a guy that had a "no name" car, it can be very difficult when selling them. Local people to me, even tho they knew the builder very well, AND the car was in good shape, didnt want to give me more than 7500 for car. I ended up stripping the car of EVERYTHING but wiring, plumbing, guages and pedals and got 7500 for it. A guy bought it, put a bunch of used **** on it and got 18000 for it. I was only asking 14k for it minus engine, trans, converter, and headers, thats the bad part

I’m convinced that other people are way better at marketing cars for sale than I am

The whole market in general is crazy right now and has been for several years. There are a lot of cars for sale including some very high end expensive cars.

Some are selling at good prices but most I think are not moving at any price. The economy is bad, gas prices are still up, insurance is high and racing in general is dying off. I think this gives door cars a small advantage that they may be able to be turned back into a street car or show car / Sunday cruiser.

My best guess is there was 5 times more racers and race cars in 2000 than there is now. Bracket racing was much bigger then than it is now. This is hurting the market for used cars.

While I am optimistic that Trump will slow the economic slide we have been in I do not know if it is possible to return to where we were. Like it or not Racing and all other expensive hobbies are effected by the Economy. One other thing I see is many live in a Virtual World, they talk about it on the computer and are not really getting out doing it. Those of us who do race are getting older and new generations just are not coming in as fast as those dropping out.

For me the last couple cars and trailers etc. that I bought for my racing operation I did at a price that I can afford to throw away if it gets worse.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.
