As I get older safety is becoming more important to me. I got the new zamp 3A to try. Once I finally got it all situated I can't look far enough to the sides to really see what I would like to see. I thought it was the straps needing to be longer but ended up my helmet hits the main frame part that goes behind my neck. I don't see people wearing them at bracket races but wonder if this is the reason. Any bracket racers on here wearing one and what brand is it? I'm only 5'8" and not much neck Smile

I wear the Necksgen and no I can't turn my head as far as if I didn't have it on. It is the strap that won't allow it on mine. I trade that for safety.

I will say if I tilt my head forward then look back I can see further.

I also have the Necksgen and do not have any experience with other brands.

Now in the last few years my vision has changed I developed a Astigmatism. (?) Any way now my side vision is not what it used to be and have to turn my head more to see good. That and my head restraint really makes it more difficult.

Not to change the subject but I think an Engine Diaper may be most important safety device on your car. Your helmet and HANS device may save you if you are in a crash. An Engine diaper may contain the oil and water enough to PREVENT you from crashing in first place. I have blown a motor at the finish line and it was a ride and no fun. That was around 2000 when we did not have diapers available for regular bracket guys. Now I would not run a car with out one. Period.

A few years ago a guy died at San Antonio because he blew the motor with no diaper and hit the wall. His car was not that fast but that was all it took.

Bottom line to me is you want to be safe and some sacrifices may be made to be safe. You decide what you are comfortable with.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

I ran over part of my crankshaft at the stripe about 4 years ago (luckily 1/8 mile) at 130 mph and also will not go down the track without engine diaper again. Skidding around in oil while driving over engine parts at 130, once was enough. Can you tell me how tall the back part of the necksgen is while just setting on a flat surface? This one was about 4.75".

This sounds backwards to me, I would think if the straps were holding it from turning wouldn't tilting your head forward shorten the straps?

I won't say you are wrong about the way it should be, I am just telling you how it works for me. LOL

Do it just sitting in a chair. Turn your head as far as you can to the left without turning your shoulders. Now without turning it back tilt your head forward and see if you see more behind you. I may be a little odd, don't know for sure.

I have worn one of the first Gen. HANS for about 8 years now. I do have the slider tether installed and have no problem with it. I finished 7th at the IHRA world finals in Top Elm. last year wearing a HANS and bracket racing a very hard to see out of door car (41 Willys) It may take a little getting use to but with-in a couple of weeks it will be like second nature.
Good Luck with which ever one you choose.

Can you get it on and off in the car? I like the looks of that better actually. Looks like it would locate itself better than some of the smaller ones.

My son and I both have Necksgen's. Mine has the adjustable strap length. I do like that since some helmets come with the anchors already in them, and that location may not be ideal for all restraints. I can turn all most as far, but not quite. I can put it on in the car, but buckling with the helmet on is more difficult. I keep the helmet and the neck assembly together as one assembly most of the time. If you don't have help, fumbling around for the tether to clip in can be aggravating.

Yes, on and off no problem at all sitting in the car. The New HANS is ever a little bit small then the one I wear. I like it, it's very simple and easy. I don't need any help buckling up, I almost always go to the lanes by myself and have never needed help buckling up or putting on the HANS.

Necksgen here as well. I can't crank all the way around like I used to, but I can still see far enough back to judge up to about a 30 MPH difference. Given that I'm unlikely to be running anyone more than 30 faster than me, it suits my purposes well.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm generally chasing unless I run into a bunch of dragsters. But kind of freaks me out not able to move freely so want as much movement as possible.

I have been wearing a Pro Series HANS device for several years and won't get in a car without one. I can get in my roadster sit down and put the HANS on. After the run I can remove it and the helmet while still seated. I also have the sliding tethers and can see at least 90 degrees in either direction without a problem.

I can't contribute anything about other devices, this one suits me just fine.

I have the newest NecksGen with the adjustable tethers. I can't turn my as far as I could without it but wearing it is one of the few things my wife demands in my race program. I'm pretty sure I had the only on the property at the track I was at this past weekend.

I had a Simpson Carbon Fiber Hybrid Pro before and hated dealing with the straps.

I don't recall ever seeing another bracket guy wearing one around here unless they are running a Q8 series that day. I'm running 140ish and know there is zero chance of holding my head from snapping if I plow the wall.

I only run 117 in the 1/8 but I always ask people who comment on my restraint, "how fast are you comfortable running head on into the concrete wall without one"?
