Knowing the love of EV rides, especially trucks, I’m sharing this.
On deck today at 9PM, Ford will show off the new F-150 Lightning. It’s going to quick and Fast.

Ford’s new all-electric F-150 pickup truck might be facing a problem or two....

Ford promises EPA ratings of 230 and 300 miles, but towing and hauling near the claimed 10,000-pound maximum is going to seriously cut into those figures.

In a recent towing test with another EV, lugging a 3859-pound boat at 70 mph chopped its range in half compared to a run at the same speed sans trailer. Applying these results to the F-150 means that towing a modest trailer would put the highway range at roughly 100 to 125 miles, depending on the pack. Towing anywhere near the 10,000-pound maximum rating on XLT and Lariat models (with the maximum trailer tow package and extended-range battery) at highway speeds, we believe you'd be hard pressed to exceed double-digit miles.

Maybe they need to put a windmill in the back of the truck?

So they think you couldn't go more than 10 miles towing 10,000lbs? Is that what they are saying?

More than 100

I don't find much exciting about them. Even environmentally. Just another way for cities to push their problems into the rural areas pollution wise.

Pretty useless speculation by Car and Drive. They never drove one let alone tested one. But, that’s a perfect narrative for the naysayers.

Yep, completely misinterpreted that. LOL Exceed double digits, not REACH. I probably should have had a second cup this morning.

Electric cars made in buildings with fuel supplied by petroleum(in 1 form or another) to run the power plants, shipped on trucks that run on petroleum and charged by the petroleum fueled power company. Naysayer my ass...it's stupid.

I won't even get started on the mining to make lithium batteries and the effects of burying old batteries.

Lithium in short supply will be gone in 150 years or more., By the time they phase out fossil the electric rates will be 10 times higher..

Wheel motors on locomotives do a lot of work. As of now diesel powered generators run them . Perhaps someday solar panels on top of the train will replace them. Perhaps not.

The problem I see with electric vehicles is the inability (right now) to get much work done. Maybe it will change in the future.

It seems to me if we could solve the nuclear fuel rod storage and disposal problem that you might have enough electricity to use for things like vehicles but until then you’re stuck with fossil fuel electric generation.

I am not so much against electric vehicles as I am for any form of energy which makes sense...currently (pun intended) EV's do not make sense for most on many levels...petroleum still makes the most sense for us at the present time...it is plentiful and cheap...maybe someday an alternate form of energy will appear to replace petroleum but that is down the road a good piece...

and therein lies a loophole. It can be made less plentiful and more expensive by those that want it that way.

For those of you keeping score at home...they burn diesel fuel in locomotives to power the generators which then power the electric motors. By linking several of these diesel-electric locomotives together, they can then pull the 200+ coal-filled hopper cars required each day by each of the hundreds of electric power generating plants that are used to generate electricity so leftists can drive "green" cars, while listening to NPR and smugly bashing fossil fuels. Then they get home and crank up the A/C without a thought as to where that power comes from either.

And if you’re pulling a boat with that F-150 EV it damn well better be a sail boat or a row boat.

I remember when Chevy released the 1990 SS454 pickup trucks. The performance of them was not great, due to the horrible and out-dated emissions systems all cars had to carry in those days, but one of the "tests" (publicity stunts) they did, was to take one to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and ran it for 24 hours straight, averaging over 100 MPH for the entire period, (including fuel stops).
Truth be told, there were a bunch of 1990 vehicles that could have accomplished the same stunt.

Think the "E" F-150 (or any other EV) will be able to pull that off in the next decade? (I suppose it would most likely be a Tesla, capable of running 200 MPH for an hour, then charging for an hour, rinse & repeat x12 to average 100 MPH).
