NHRA Countdown Changes
Not sure this is going to affect too many sportsman racers; probably none; but it is noteworthy to admit some misgivings on the issue.

Could he; and again just using him as an example; sit back and glide through the year making sure that all he has to do is peak during the Countdown’s final six races?

Why you bet ya. This is how the crown jewel of professional cycling, the Tour De France, has been won for years now. The only other race top contenders, like LeMond and Armstrong, made any real effort, other that using them as training aides, was the world championship. To think people won't take advantage of the rules is naive.

So why have a full season then...lets just have 6 races...this whole countdown thing has been a joke since the inception and this deal just accelerates the pussification of the sport! Everyone is not a winner in life no matter what mommy tells you!!

Shooter is dead on.
My issue with the change is that you don't even need to qualify OR race on race day.
Roll in the gate, setup camp, everybody have dinner and a few drinks, roll out for the 1st qualifier, idle down the track, repeat for second qualifier, pack up camp, be home Saturday night to watch junior play softball on Sunday.

You just saved a TON of money on parts, fuel, etc. and are STILL Qualified in the countdown right along side the guy that actually won some races.

You can't make this stuff up.
Just show up and not even race on race day and you're in.

I THINK this is the way that ALL Sportsman Series races SHOULD BE conducted also?

Whether someone could do this or not isn't really the question.

The fact is that someone will do this - and if for no other reason than to just show the stupidity of it.

I do not like the Countdown deal and never have. This just makes it worse.

I would not have a problem with more points for final races but to wipe out everything the teams have worked hard for all year long and basically make them equal is a joke. But it is not funny.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Obviously NHRA is doubling down on the playoff concept. They simply can't resist the stick-&-ball playoff format. Granted it's entertainment but it's simply not apples to apples when it comes to drag racing. So the sportsman/enthusiast racer will continue to moan and the suits will continue to try and maximize what they have bought into.
