Looking for a safe & quiet 2 car (20X22) garage heater that actually produces heat. Any recommendations?

Thank You

Over the course of decades I've tried all different types of heaters from wood stoves on up. Hands down the best I found was a ceiling mounted gas heater. The only downside I find is the forced air will blow things around. Mine is natural gas now but it was propane when installed and converted when natural gas was available. It's on the thermostat so I can turn it down and keep my shop from freezing when I'm not there.

I put a 50,000 BTU Big Maxx gas heater in my 3-car garage this summer. It hasn’t been colder than 20 here yet, but my garage has stayed 55 or 60, wherever I set the thermostat.

If you want to heat it only when working there I'd put in an electic furnace type heater. Had one in a 2 car in Michigan for years and was satisfied with the job it did.

TAKE IT TO THE BANK!!!!!

Couple years back it got down to 17 outside my two car garage 24 x 26 was heated by one of those radiator oil field heaters. Never got below 55° They’re very cheap or should I say an inexpensive and I put it on the timer so it kicked off.

i went with a mini-split system. we installed it ourselves as it was pre loaded with freon. ac as well as heat! 15 or 20 degrees is all it will add or subtract, but for about a grand it has worked well in our 30 x 32 metal building. rich

I second the mini split systems. They will give you heat and cooling ability and they are very efficient!

My heated and cooled part is 40X24 with 8ft ceiling and insulated to death. I have a propane wall heater and a window a/c unit and it will heat or cool more than I have ever needed. If its cold at night I just leave the heat on low. Been like that for about 15 years. Total cost was about $400.

Is that all you can get out of those? Be fine for summer here but winter when it is 15 below that isn't going to cut it. I have thought about adding one in my shop for summer. Not sure how big a 40 by 40 with 15 ft ceilings would need well insulated. Might still do it.

With the ceiling height I have, I use a hanging tube heater and like it.

x2 on the Mr. Heater Big Maxx hanging shop heater. Installed it myself and had a 250lb propane tank put behind the garage that the propane company provides for free if you use their service - they come once a month and fill it. I put a shop-type thermostat in there so I can turn it down to 50 at night and then crank it back up in the morning to work, or I can set it down to 40 just to keep things from freezing.

I'm currently using a small $100 oil filled radiator style heater in my non insulated single car garage. Depending on how cold you get, it may not be enough. Here, in a garage your size, maybe 2 of these small heaters would work best. Mine is primarily storage and doghouse to our furry friends. So far we've only dipped into the mid 40's this year, but it stayed warm in there. We'll see how it goes when we get 20's. We're pretty fortunate here on NC coast, it's not often that we dip below freezing.

I just installed one of these in my 1100 sq ft garage with 13' ceilings and not even on full blast it got the garage up to 80 in no time. I was actually very impressed as I questioned it for the price. Was only in the 30's outside but I am sold

Sorry all, I should have been more specific. I'm looking for your typical AC plug in style space heater. It's just your run of the mill 2 car attached garage with 7'6" ceiling height, in the Northeast.

There are a number of electric heaters that will work. You will need 220v to power them though. I have one puts out about 20,000 BTU's and does the job. I have a two car garage and on the colder days it take about 1/2 to 45 min's to warm up to a comfortable temp. I don't leave it on when not in use. It is simpler to Fahrenheat. DYna-Glo has one that has close to 35,000 BTUs.

One thing to also consider is installing a outside air intake system where the heater/Furnace pulls fresh air in from the outside to use for combustion. Makes it a lot safer if you are doing minor painting inside. Also doesn't use up oxygen from inside.

I have the same setup with mine mounted on the ceiling. It works great.

I'm impressed at liquid filled electric baseboard heaters. My parents had them to replace 40 year old regular baseboard in their basement and it's amazing how well they work.
