I carry very little cash. I use cards for most everything, and pay off the balances every month. I like cash back, and get $300-$400 a year for basically nothing.

OP not asking which use for every day stuff. What do you use for firearms or ammo is question. Card easier to trace purchases is main point. America home of free. Brought to you by 2nd amendment.

That cash back comes out of the merchant's account. I have an Amazon card that gives 5% back on Amazon purchases, I don't mind that. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375

I don’t believe so. They pay x% of the sale to accept a CC payment no matter what. I take advantage of this when every possible and average over $1.5k in cash back yearly.

Good point. As far as firearms, I still prefer to use cash, even though it's easy enough for govt to use the purchasing paperwork to see who's buying what. Ammo, I'm strictly cash. Let those who may want to track my purchases wonder if I have 1 bullet or 1,000,000 bullets. William Kilduff 1970 Barracuda 1968 Camaro X2 1968 Caprice 1964 F100

No one can question the ease of using plastic, and thus many do. You might want to consider the concept of "paying it forward" and use cash as much as possible. Why? Are you aware of CBDC and it's ramifications? Once that threshold is passed there won't be any going back. Illegitimi non carborundum

No sir, the merchant pays 1.8 % up to 7 % depending on the card and processing service. We were losing over $2 K a month in fees at our little tire store, on Discover mostly, and we didn't accept Amex at all. I instituted an automatic 3 % fee on credit cards, and you should have seen the debit cards coming at us. The debit card fee is a nominal transaction charge, no penalty to the merchant. Eeeerybody likes that cash back until they have to pay. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375

Last November I purchased new tires online from a major tire seller/ installer. I was given a $100 manufacture rebate, a 5% veterans discount, and at no time was I offered a discount for not using a credit card, or an additional charge for using a credit card. The card I used pays 2% for all purchases no matter the merchant. I don’t own a Debit card, but if one offers a discount for not using a credit card I do have a checking account and can pay that way. You’d be surprised how many people don’t have one of those. I carry less than $100 cash.
The money I receive monthly does not show up in a box with $100 /$50/$20/$10/$5/$1 in Federal Reserve Notes and change in it. It’s digitally transferred to me from the payers to my bank account.

Many if not most major payments are made electronically these days. Just as one use to go to the bank to cash a check, one can go to the bank to withdrawal cash. Of course that's inconvenient and time consuming so most won't make the effort unless they're committed to the cause. Most of my cash is from checks for dividends, IRA distributions and other such sources. Any online disruptions of up to a month would not effect my local purchasing. Illegitimi non carborundum
