Cutting a light, on a Pro tree, in a 5000 pound car would be impossible, even with the best electronics. Bring it on. Reminds me of when a guy showed up with a diesel powered funny car and ran in Super Comp. I enjoy something different, but it is a very tough class to compete with an odd ball car. I don't like the EV's, but can you imagine how much publicity someone would get for just showing up in one and losing first round? Bet they'd get just as much TV time as the Pro's Pretty sure NHRA made a rule that they have to be in their own class though? | |||

I love running D/G and can run under the index easily but when I catch them I break out. | |||

You are right. The MOTORS can instantly make torque. Everything that 'controls' the motors are where the issues lie. A dedicated motor brake would resolve some of it but in my experience they suck. They don't usually last very long. If you think that electronics are faster than humans, you are not thinking correctly. Go get on a higher performing off-road vehicle that has electronic throttle, and go drive it on an off road course (dirt/sand) that requires a lot of on-and-off throttle input . You'll quickly find out that the electronic control of it just plain sucks. Similarly, ETV's on the drag strip. There is always a delay between the time you push the throttle to the floor and the time the ETV motor opens the blade(s). That delay goes unnoticed by many average drivers. Now, get out of that vehicle and into a mechanical throttle vehicle using only footbrake. You will probably redlight. | |||

None of that is an issue with the Tesla. Wire in a button activated relay directly to the motor and your human reaction time would be the only "delay" as the electronics are moving at, or near, the speed of light. And I understand the relay is mechanical. But any delay would be minimal, and I believe there are none mechanical/all electronic relays available now days. My point is I don't think hitting a pro tree would be an issue. For the Tesla at least. . Dave F J B | |||

Tesla Plaid Channel on YouTube. That guy had some issues with the track management early on...then like magic, EV owners get special treatment by NHRA.
Deep in the 9's and over 150 MPH with nothing required but a helmet. No cage, no chassis cert, no license, no full face helmet, no 5 layer suit, no gloves, no chute. How many average track safety crews are really trained and equipped to handle a 150 MPH + crash or fire, with one of these abortions? The Tesla Plaid channel dude already had a car from the other lane clip his rear 1/4, at the stripe. Could have been really bad news. It's classic folly playing out. Yeah that's another issue. Those cars weigh, what? 4700 lbs? Wreck a 4700 lb car at 150+ and if you hit another car, it's GOING to be ugly. | |||
