If you are planning on attending the NHRA Division 7 Race at Tucson (March 1-3) and want to pit on asphalt you need to register ASAP. As of this afternoon there were only about 26 spaces remaining, after they are gone you have to pit in the dirt. They are going to have a test and tune session on Thursday, that will cost you an additional $100.

The Tucson Dragway web site has the registration information.

So to park on asphalt you have to pre-enter over two month ahead? Looks like i will be missing this race and i will be heading back to Vegas after the Phoenix Nationals.

Thanks for the heads up. We will be there for the division race and the bracket race so getting an asphalt spot would be nice.

As long as it was refundable if my plans were to change for some reason, I would not have any issue pre entering to guarantee a spot on the pavement and not be out in the dirt

Been a long time since I parked in the dirt there, But I caution anyone that's decided to wait and not register early. The dirt is also full of goat heads, stickers, nasty thorns etc. Had to put booties on my dog so he could go outside. It was miserable. Maybe they have cleaned them out, but I doubt it.

A few goat heads won’t bother me it’s the packs of coyotes running around at night that can be an issue, (I bring 22# dog to the races).

What’s a few goat heads “between” friends?

I would imagine that Jim is going to try and make this as pleasant as possible for us sportsman racers. He has obviously been working very hard to put Tucson back in the NHRA rotation.

Jim and Matt have been working very hard making Tucson the place to race. I'm sure Mark is dead on about his post. If you have not been there in a while you will be pleasantly surprised with all the improvements and the track. Sorry about the negative post earlier, I just have not talked to both of them in a long time.... To busy racing when I'm at the track...LOL

Sorry if my post is on the negative side, but it's was the truth. I hope they have fixed the problem. I still continue to race at Tucson, but would always pre-register so I could park on asphalt and you know why. I didn't mention that I had a flat on trailer tire because of the goat heads and had the same problem at Medford a few years back before they stopped Div. races there. So as you can see the terrain where I pit is important. I guess I should have kept my mouth shut, so the racer could find out on their own. What got into me
