Bob, I'm kinda worried because the city may fine me for over watering my lawn for the 20 minutes it rained on it...
They claim to be able to impose up to a $500 fine for watering my lawn for more than 10 minutes once a week.

Easier said than done & I don't live there.

I had a similar situation living in Las Vegas, moved there in 1988 & population was a little over 500,000; it felt small town for its size. It was the fastest growing city in the U.S. for way too many years, but it was home. Then about 7 years ago (around 3 million in population), I move out about 55 miles & it was the best thing I could have done! I'm staying here till I die in my small town.

What bothers me about that is the Stupidity of the leaders. They have like 4 million people using the water from Lake Mead in Las Vegas, parts of Arizona and California for drinking water, sewage and farming yet they blame the low water levels of the Lake on global Warming like it is my fault? WTF? no telling how much water it uses to irrigate the crops but nope it is Global Warming......

Typical Democrat they want to blame everyone but themselves for mess they created. They expect everyone else to pay the tab they ran up.

I think it was Gavin Newsome who was asked about all of the people using the water if that had an effect and he said No, it is Global Warming. Really?

The other thing about that is if you refuse to acknowledge the problem you will never find a solution.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

I have never lived in even a small town more than a short time. I like looking out the window at cows, deer, trees, etc. No HOA, no zoning, no close neighbors, no shootings, etc. I know its hard to move, I have done it on occasion, but the only thing stopping you is you. You have to have the nerve to do it. I have left before with nothing going to nothing but survived. YOU have to want to.

this^^^everything else is an excuse! Our country has changed and ain't ever going back to what it was just a few years ago no mind what it was when I was growing up. The one thing young people have right today is they are planning their life and moving to a state that aligns with their ideas, beliefs and dreams and that will become the norm, people specifically choosing whether to live in a red or blue state.

The one really legitimate anchor that keeps many where they are of course is family. Still the world is full of choices. And we do or should make our choices based upon priorities. If family is top on ones list, that should have a huge influence on choices.

Illinois and other “blue” states in reality are a sea of red with city cesspools of blue. My state is mostly moderate at worst and conservative at best. But Chicago and Springfield dominate our politics.

I would love to be in a small town or out in the country would be best.....I could do it here but I'd still be in California so no real improvement.
I really like Northern Nevada Utah, Northern Arizona and Wyoming. I used to want to move to Texas, but I've heard their leaning liberal lately...
AND, no matter what state I move to I would take into consideration how close the nearest track, or two, was.

Just a couple thoughts. From what I have seen of TX, Dallas and Austin seem to be left leaning. Much of the rest of the state pretty normal people.
But in general like I said above, even blue states are only blue because of the influence and size of the urban areas.....which I wouldn't live in regardless of what state I was in. I'm on 24 acres in Illinois with a large pond, no neighbors, prairie flower field, long private lane. It's heaven, and we seldom would know our state politics are dominated by liberal twits. Find yourself a slice of heaven in the country, and forget about what nonsense is going on in the urban areas.

I got a pretty good deal. I bought 3 acres but it is surrounded by 197 that one of my good friends owns. We have Deer, Turkey, (good) and also Coyotes, feral hogs and a Mountain Lion (Bad)

My driveway is over 1/8 mile long and you can not see my house from road.

6,000 square foot shop with 2 bedroom 2.5 bath house inside.

Still trying to get house and Altered finished up. Later will do a solar patio and girlfriend wants a garden. Also going to build an upstairs patio / shooting range.

Part of the reason I moved out to the country was because of everything is going to dung. I saw the direction b@lls@ck Obama was taking the Country and decided it was time to make a change. Took me a while to find place I wanted.

Sure glad I did I really like it out here. No road noise, I can shoot when ever I want. There is several good tracks with in 2 hours from here and I am far enough out of city that do not have to worry about city problems, traffic, crime and stupid people.

Until you look at your tax liability. LOL Just kidding you on that.

I agree that you are doing it the best you can though. I have 10 acres similarly 25 miles away from a large urban area (Tulsa). 169 acres of trees to my east, 150 acre cattle ranch to my south. I do have neighbors at the back of my place, (west) and my wife's best friend is on the north end. We live in the far southeast corner of the land. I'm a few miles outside of the small town I grew up in and am remote enough to not be bothered but still close enough to jump in the truck and get to town in a few minutes.

I will say that by the time I die housing will probably end up crowding us if the large land area east of our place sells. Oklahoma is still pretty conservative or some may say backwards but I'm happy here. Our taxes are relatively low, probably because of the oil and casino tax money that comes into the state.

When I moved back to Colorado, there was no way in hell I was going to live in, or close to Denver. It's become a liberal sheet hole and a crime infested cesspool. It was once a very nice and somewhat clean city....but liberals have destroyed that. It took me a bit to find what I wanted, and it cost me more than I wanted to spend, but I haven't regretted a minute of it. I'm about 40 miles out of town, all of my neighbors are deep red, I can shoot on my property, have deer, elk, turkeys, bear, mountain lion, and a host of other critters. My driveway is 900 feet long, 12 acres of heavily forested property with a stream at one end of it. It's safe here too....not in a location someone will just "happen by". To come to my place, you have to be INTENDING TO COME here.....

Ha! You aren't wrong though. $7500 annually for property taxes is far from the cheapest in the nation. Fortunately in the sticks, this property is probably only $700k or so. Depending on the market and economy. Also fortunately, the worse Chicago gets, the more folks with money there want to be.....here. When I am not able to physically keep up this property, there ought to be plenty of city fleer's wanting to buy.
