Sad but true appears yet another national event track will be closing its doors after it next national event. But this happens when folks don't pay their taxes. I get maybe disagreeing with a valuation but to just ignore them and pay nothing was only a matter of time. And it seems time has come.

I have been following all the local news stories for the past year. The owner only protested The 2017 taxes properly, never filed a legal protest after that for any year after. He just quit paying taxes period. He will be very lucky if the county doesn't hang a pad lock on the gate and sell the place on the courthouse steps for taxes owed

He tried until he was blue in the face for the city/county to take the track. He asked that they lease it back to him because they were taxing him out of business. They refused so he just kept operating until they gave him a deadline. There's a reason that Topeka is shutting down at the same time I-70 is opening.

A facility that large with the maintenance costs and limited dates available will NEVER stay open without the Million Dollar profit National Event.
It was inevitable and the new KC track, from what I hear it is going to be a really nice facility but not so big it isn't financially viable.
Time will tell.
But Ed is right, we will have less choices of tracks in the next few years. Land values are going nuts and racetrack profits are not.

If you're ever wondering why local level politicians do what they do, in any location and on any topic, just ask yourself "how do developers profit from this?"

At this point the only thing official is that there isn't a national there after this year. They are still planning on racing next year and were talking about it this past weekend...

Yea if the county does not hang a padlock on the gate, cant see him staying open much longer without paying taxes. Such a shame for such a nice facility
