STUPID and I hope they turn off the side lights when sportsman are running and if you have a tree reader, this just makes it easier.

What`s the purpose of this? Mind numbing idea from NHRA.

Come on man, how do they expect my new tree reader to pick up all those flashing lights?

Just when I thought that it was safe to go racing again!

Just dumb!!! But I do wish all tracks would use the blue stage lights that NHRA uses. At least for me I can see the top bulb better with the contrast between the blue and yellow, especially at night.

Steve I agree but I'm pretty sure no track has that tree. That tree is made specifically for NHRA national events to the tune of $20k so the best a track can do is replace their yellow incandescent prestage and stage bulbs with blue incandescent bulbs...

We use that tree here at Bandimere. They switched to it when the NHRA started using the new round blue light for pre staged and staged. I like it better as well, easier to see for me.

So fans can see the lights from the side.

While I am all for things to increase fan awareness and interest, I don't know this is it. Not very aesthetically pleasing. As far as tree readers I don't know what the side would do vs the front.

I think the idea there is so the fans can see the lights better to know more what is going on. I understand that, but also thinks that is may open the door for more opportunity to cheat?

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

All these comments about tree readers are stunning.
If somebody had one and wanted to cheat, why use it at an NHRA National event to win $1500?

You don't think there was some sarcasm in those comments?

While I have zero proof anyone is or has used a tree reader, I know it could be done.......will or has someone I have no idea. With a million on the line it would make a lot of people think.

Back to the tree.....it is pretty ugly.....I think it looks like a design by committee....we have to do something different thinking doesn't always end well

On another note.....I do like the idea of replacing yellow incandescent with blue.....I am going to recommend that to our track manager he considers that. Will he change them.....I don't know but someone has to ask.

I don't know about the blue incandescents at night....Or even the day if someone wears sunglasses or has a tinted shield to cut down the glare. The LEDs would be way brighter I imagine.

This new tree will surely solve all of the NHRA's problems.

Here is a vid that shows you what deep pockets can do regarding cheating, or rule bending. Specific to starting lights starts @ 6:18.
