bcMOD3X3XWhat will it run?
Taking our Vega to the track for the first time this coming weekend and thought it would be fun to see what everyone thinks it will run.
74 Vega - Roughly 2400lbs w/ driver
355 sbc, 14:1, APD 750 Alky carb, APD Belt Drive Pump, Brodix Track 1 227cc, Victor Jr Intake, HVH Super Sucker Spacer, Crane Mechanical Roller/.625 Lift.
1.76 Powerglide, 8 inch Abruzzi Converter, 5800 stall, pro tree brake.
12 bolt, 35 Spline Moser Axles, 4.56 Richmond Pro Gear, Ladder Bar
31x14 Hoosier D05 (10 psi), 26x4.5 Hoosier Fronts (38 psi), 3600rpm launch

CURTIS REED6.14 @ 112 in reasonable air.

Tom396I think "...for the first time..." is an important point. There will be some bugs to work out.
That said, my guess is 6.35. Take care. Tom Worthington
If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

markemarkWith engine broke in and carb properly jetted, shifting @ 7k or better, 5.90 / 115.

I'm guessing right in this range too .....

TomRSimilar to my car;
355ci, 11:1, Brodix Track 1 heads hand ported to a 1207, Edelbrock Super Victor intake, 850 QuickFuel Alky carb, Enderle belt driven pump, PBM roller cam
PG w/1.80 gearset, 8" FTI 5800 stall
12 bolt w/4.56 gears, 28x10.5 Hoosier slicks, ladder bar, Afco shocks
Runs 6.40's in the heat at 3025 lbs.
What is roughly 600 lbs worth in the 1/8?
High 6 teens to low 20's @ 110 would be my guess

bcMOD3X3XI would be beyond happy if the car ran 6.1X's! This motor/trans combination use to run 6.60's in good air and low 6.70's in the heat in mu old 3000-3100lbs small tire chevelle (forget the exact weight). Also the chevelle had a terrible rear suspension set up that was in a bind and the thing was like a brick going through the air.
I was going to be happy if the Vega ran low 6.30's high 20's but I guess I could be way off.

BLIND MULE 22176.10-6.20 depending on where you shift it. You may end up needing a little more gear.

One thing that will hold it back a little is the 4.56 and Victor Jr. intake. I just changed from a Jr. to a Strip Dominator and it is worth some. I have much better fuel distribution with the Holley. I also think the small engine with big intake ports would like more rpm with at least a 4.88 or maybe 5.14 gear set. I have 4.88s in my roadster it was crossing at 6675 last year running real low 5.80s, this year 6785 running high 5.60s and 14x32s. Just a thought.

I've always been told the strip dominator is worth .10 over most other intakes.
My Super Victor is port matched to my heads and milled to fit them properly or I would bolt the Strip Dominator to this engine.

bcMOD3X3XI'm planning on turning my 355 into a 383 either next year or the year after and then using the rotating assembly out of the 355 to put together a spare motor. I think I will look into the Strip Dominator for my next motor.

CURTIS REEDI went with the Strip Dominator because I'm cheap. I believe the Holley 300-110 Keith Dorton version would be a better intake. Be aware that the 300-25 has to have weld or epoxy on the top outside of the intake ports to make sure it seals well because for some reason they have started putting a large chamfer there. I also had to run .188" gaskets to get the top of the ports to match with my Track 1s. It is much better than the Jr. though. Almost all intakes really need port work to match well.
Tom I wouldn't touch a thing in your case having what you have got.

It ended up being way faster than I intended it to run. Couldn't be happier with it.
