Team,
Looking to move to the King of Prussia area in a month or so. I was wondering where people store their motor-homes and trailers during the week. Also, how tough is law enforcement on over length rigs?

Also what tracks are close to that area, IE within 3 hours.

Internet chatter states PA is a little tough on motorhomes/trailers. I believe the majority stated that you need a special license or a CDL.

Pa I believe is stricter on MHs and trailers than my home state of NJ but they all are cracking down it seems on this issue. A money garb! My Pa. racer friends were recently talking about getting or having a CDL. Most have big rigs. I do know trailers have to be inspected. Not sure about the CDL issue or the DOT rules either but they are as I said out there sometimes stopping people. King of Prussia is west of Philly, suburbs. Tracks in that general area, Maple Grove, Atco, Cecil County and Numidia. All not a long way but, Traffic is a big issue there and all thruout the area. Some very nice places in that area and very upscale. Some famous Colleges in the area....Villanova for one and others....

If your MH is over 26,000 you need a non commercial Class B license. If the trailer is over 10,000 you would need a Class A non commercial.

Fuel taxes are highest in the country, vehicle registration is high, inspection fees high, property taxes high and the roads suck.

Why are you moving to Pa.? Many residents want out . Smile

LOL Chris beat me posting about this. Boz, I was going to suggest you talk him about the turnpikes.

I live in Northern NJ and am about 1 hour from Pa....straight west on 80 or various other routes more south

I have EZPass and the border crossings are all at the Delaware river.

My 25' MH and 26' trailer is $16 everytime I go to any Pa track. Its a buck for a people car.

Fee is $4 an axle for trucks and MH's and add the trailer......

NJ roads are beautiful compared to Pa. !!

On my recent trip out to Numidia I wanted to jump out !! Potholes, road work, wind, truckers......

The return trip was without the wind and very few truckers.....and no paving....Sunday...and not so bad...

A trip to Cecil for me would be over $100 tolls if I use the NJ TP....

Last time I went to Cecil I went into Pa. to avoid the NJTP and ran along the river on the Pa side....thru Wilmington Del.

My Daughter lives a little west of the King of Prussia area.....and I can go that way to get to Cecil....3hrs 15 minutes last time I went....

Maple Grove 2-1/2 110-120miles
Numidia about the same 125 miles
Atco 2 hrs.......100 miles
Cecil.....I forget the miles
Lebanon Valley....160-170 IIRC...

Traffic jambs on weekends is a given......Road work.....accidents.....All the major roads are jambed with traffic at peak times....

I celebrate with a beer arriving alive at most races..and try to go when I think traffic is mellow and it's the day before the race starts sometimes....

Very relaxing once I'm there and parked.......

When I live in Reading the turnpike charged per axle. The problem was that at that time the Turnpike was the fastest way to travel east and west so you just grit your teeth and pay the charge. Between the State inspections, registration fees, highway toll fees and fuel tax Pennsylvania was expensive if you were towing anything.

I thought Illinois was a PIA with taxes and corrupt government. At least where I am, there is little to no traffic. Got that going for us!

NJ is the densest state...population wise...

Eastern Pa. is very dense too, some areas. Miles and miles of empty land further west and north

Most NJ major roads are 3-4 lanes wide. Parkway North South....Turnpike North south.....

Rt 8o and 78 East-West are major corridors.

Pa. is 2 lanes in some areas on 78 and 80 and it causes some real traffic jambs.

In NJ the exodus is "down the shore" on weekends and out west to Pa.

Your sailing along thinking man I'm gonna be there in no time.....and wham.....your caught up in a miles long traffic jamb creeping along....

Pocono Raceway is east of Numidia......and other major highways that people use to get back to NJ and NYC....

I got caught in one of those jambs once after the NASCAR race at Pocono......Geez.....5 hours to get home....

If I had to move to Pa. for just 18 months I would keep a Texas PO Box or whatever and stay licensed and registered there. It is all tooooo expensive here. After you are here for a week you will be counting the days to get out.

Tolls, fees, taxes, traffic and potholes. The Pa. motto is- bend over a little more.

No doubt, that will happen for sure, not giving up 9% of my income right off the bat to say I work there. Texas is home of residence, registration for vehicle and drivers license
