Nhra pro stock re-revamp?
CompetititionPlus.com has confirmed with a sourece close to the situation that NHRA's Pro Stock cars will indeed go through another significant change in 2019. We are told next year will usher in the Mountain Motor Pro Stock cars into the 500-inch arena. Both combinations will run in the same class with the Mountain Motor Cars having the option of carburetors or electronic fuel injection. We are told an announcement could come either in the days leading into the NHRA U.S. Nationals or during the event.

I think its cool. Be interesting to see who switches to the big motors and who stays with the littles.

Uhhhh - didn't we do this once or twice before?

You make everyone ditch carbs for EFI so that you're more like what the man drives on the street - like it could even be close, now you want to let everyone run what they brung and think you have a chance of policing it?

Get the popcorn ready for this show!

The class could use some spice along with more cars! Similar to Pro Mod and Alky Dragster and also Pro Stock Bikes.

Bogus. You're back to NHRA picking winners and losers with weight breaks. Be like Glidden, don't run it as hard as it will go.

They're going to have to add like 400 pounds to these things.
Don't these guys run like 6.20's or better?

Don't get me wrong, it will be cool BUT I can see the 500 inch NHRA guys crying when lined up with a guy with 845 cubes.

If you think the government is good at messing things up, you haven't seen anything til you see how NHRA makes rules to allow pro stocks to be competitive with Pro Mod's. Another reason for me to be glad I don't make my living doing anything with Pro Stock. Those guys are in for a roller coaster ride.

As much I enjoyed pro stock, I'm ready for a real change. I think Factory Stock has the right idea.

I was going to say it would never happen but then I thought about Harley-Davidson. They gave NHRA a bunch of money and now they are allowed to run almost twice the cubic inches, EFI, 4 valves, billet blocks and anything else they want. While all others are required to run 1970's blocks, two valve heads and carbs. I do not know how much Harley paid to buy the Championships but that is exactly what they did and made a joke of the class.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Is it that hard to admit the changes did not work? How many Teams dismantled? EFI is not as fast, no scoops- did nothing for filling seats, limiting the rpm lost valve spring company's big money along with hurting the hemi's, limiting wheelie bar length... Except for a trip hazard and trailer space it did nothing...
Yeah I'm wasting precious keyboard time I know...

I've never been impressed with mm pro stock. 850-900 ci motors only to run a couple of tenths quicker than a 500 in motor. no thanks NHRA.

What is your fix?
Factory stock stuff I think will be interesting for about 5 minutes. Then everyone will be sick of that too. I really don't know what will fix this class. Doing nothing probably won't.

Bucky... EFI would have been fine, leave the rest, give EFI a weight break until they get close if ever. Like TF, PS and Comp are about innovation. You can’t chase teams off an already struggling class and you need their input. The changes made zero sense to me.. bringing in MM cars is another mistake. IMHO...

Boy isn't that the truth. They will be the death of 500" engines. Why spend the coin it takes to run one when you can pick up the phone and order a MM engine from how many multiple sources at way less than it takes to develop the power it takes to run 500 inches?

Letting teams run wild with innovation is what put them in the position they are now. All of the rules with weight limits on engine parts are because KB racing was using exotic parts and everyone else had to pay to keep up. Teams being allowed to use $18,000.00 a pair shocks is another problem. I heard Richard Freeman from elite say they had 6 pairs in their trailer. NHRA isn’t helping the class in anyway either. They made all of these rule changes and don’t enforce the most important one and that’s keeping the intake and the fronts of the cars uncovered. NHRA also cut the payout and cut the purse in half for qualifying.I really don’t see how going to factory bodies and engine is going to help this class.

I agree with some of your post...mostly the second half of your post. If you are running PS and worried about cost, you are in the wrong class.

EFI doesn't need a weight break, it needs to be treated fairly, IE: forward facing hoodscoops, whatever and as many as you like throttle bodies, and take the rpm limit away. I bet you would either see 4 2bbl throttle bodies, or 8 singles if they were allowed to do it.

Hey, then you've got to allow split-doms for the carb guys!
