16ft Enclosed Trailer is All That's Needed
Open trailers have their place just like the ramp trucks. Most racers now have so many spare parts and a golf cart so the encl trailer is a necessity. Then there’s weather and security. It has all evolved.

Wait. So if I'm understanding, I need to upgrade to an enclosed trailer to keep right on doing what I've been doing for the past 40+ years? Smile Heck. Here I thought it was a big deal to move up to a trailer at all! Take care. Tom Worthington

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

You do whatever you want and can afford. I honestly don’t care how anyone gets their cars to the track. I upgraded because I got tired of running around like a chicken with its head cut off when it rains. And I got tired of unloading everything in the middle of the night when I got home from racing.

It's not just drag racers. Look at the pit of even dirt track racing. Toters. Stackers. They must be dumb too.

My sentiments exactly. Used to haul my Stocker with a tow dolly behind a `75 Pontiac Grand Safari Wagon. Sold the dolly in `96 and bought an open trailer for what I got for the dolly. Still have the Stocker on that trailer! Have also since upgraded to a 26` enclosed for my Firebird behind a `72 GMC Pickup!

I'm not sure why any of us are concerned with what others use to haul their race cars around. We don't know what motivates others to buy what they buy nor what their financial means are. Why should it bother any of us if the guy in the other lane or next door has a $1500 trailer or a $60000 trailer? Our choices, are our choices right?

Bucky is correct.
BUT I will say this, peoples needs change as they go thru life.
I started out with a pick up and open trailer in the 70's, slept in the truck, used the port-a-potties, no shower other than maybe a splash and rinse in the mens room once in a while.
As time went on, I got a dragster, (enclosed trailer) I got married, wife loved racing so she wanted to attend, needed a bigger trailer for 2 dragsters. Hotels didn't cut it, wife needed a bathroom at the track, (not port-a-pottie, couldn't blame her). Got a motorhome, then the dogs needed to come with us (100 and 160 pounds), needed a bigger motorhome, etc, etc, etc.

Like I said, life changes/necessities are more than anything else.
Look at the guys that bring their wife and kids/juniors.
It's all good.

You are right. But when you get my age you realize you have to much stuff and most of it is to big so---my motor home got smaller and got an open Featherlite trailer. Kids gone, Momma died, dog died, etc. Don't need a 4br house and 5ac of yard, cabin in the mountains on the river, another house in the big city, or a 52X40 garage......so I am slowly letting it go. I spent the weekend at the track and had as much fun as I could stand with lots of my friends......

Then put a big mural on the side of your trailer and add a bunch of stickers to make it stand out. I would have no problem doing that to my trailer. I got the same looks and thumbs up too. But you couldn’t pay me to go back to an open trailer.[/QUOTE]

You would make yourself commercial to DOT just that quick also....

I guess I'm still confused. Who is looking for looks or thumbs up? Who needs it? Fern has done enough in his life that he certainly doesn't need accolades over his trailer. And if anyone is jealous of someone's big trailer, that's their own problem to figure out. Until socialism comes along and we all have to car pool or have the same sized spec trailer, we can choose what we want to use to drag our stuff to the track. Right?

Wow that's getting out there. The thumbs up part is fun not matter what. Nobody said it was a NEED. There is a certain amount of ego in what we do and if you say it doesn't make you feel good for someone to acknowledge your stuff as being nice or something they like I don't believe you. Do you NEED it? No but it's nice when you get it. I think you might have tipped over the edge there a little. LOL

I like to travel light and cheap. I use a small (lightweight Harbor Freight air compressor),small 2000 Champion generator and will probably go back to an altered simply so I can go back to smaller trailer.

Look, it is hot here in Texas and we do not need to make it any more work and harder than it has to be. Too much stuff and it becomes more work and less fun. I have friends who bring all kinds of canopies and one used to bring a wood patio deal he set up on an open trailer then he tore it down at end of day. Too much work for a fun day.

When I first went to alcohol in 1998 most of my friends were running gas and when they got back to trailer they would fire up generator, hook up battery charger and work to get the motor temp back down and battery charged back up. Poor people were running around in Texas heat like that. I run an alternator and alcohol so battery stays charged and do not have to run fans and water pump all the time to keep cool and do not have to run battery charger.

I think that is what the original poster here is talking about making it light and simple and not going overboard.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.
