LS build
I have looked through a few of the older threads but was looking for any more feedback or opinions I could get. I am going to try and rebuild one for my single cab short bed obs chevy, and I'm hoping for high 11s low 12s. I would consider e85 or pump gas. I'm also curious which generation, head type, etc you used.

I did exactly what you want to do. 1994 C1500 regular cab short bed.
5.3LS bored to 5.7.
Stock crank and rods.
Forged flat top pistons
12-1 compression
600ish lift cam, hyd-roller
Edelbrock carb intake, 850cfm holley
TH400 with 3500 stall - 3.73 rear gear 10.5x28 slick
Ran 7.20s in good air. 6.60s with a 125 shot of nos

Meziere Tech.
Make sure your water pump is on whenever you check your coolant level.

Truck really needed a 4.33 gear

Oh and ran best on 91 pump gas.

How are you doing ignition and tuning?

Did you use stock heads? If so, did you do anything to them?

that depends on the level of competency with a laptop (no offense). You could get a way with a stock ECU and a HP Tuners device, you could converter it over to a cap and distributor.

Personally I prefer the aftermarket ECU route. I did fueltech because they have certain installs that make the car bracket race legal, built in delay box, built in data logging and their customer service is light years ahead of Holleys with the dominator(closest competitor). Plus with the aftermarket ECU I can put any engine & matching harness (i'm making my own) in the car and know that it will run it without question.
