Key Democrat suggests party moderates 'brain dead'

WASHINGTON (AP) - A key House liberal suggested Thursday that party moderates who've pushed for changes in health care legislation are "brain dead" and out for insurance company campaign donations.
Moderate Blue Dog Democrats "just want to cause trouble," said Rep. Pete Stark, D-Calif., who heads the health subcommittee on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee.

"They're for the most part, I hate to say, brain dead, but they're just looking to raise money from insurance companies and promote a right-wing agenda that is not really very useful in this whole process," Stark told reporters on a conference call.

A spokeswoman for the Blue Dog caucus did not immediately respond to an e-mail request for comment.

Nancy Pelosi asks for $100K to fight 'smears'

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has launched an urgent effort to raise $100,000 by Monday to help combat what she calls GOP "smears" about health care reform.

"Republican opponents of reform are coming out with one outrageous smear after the next, all aimed at derailing our progress. We must be able to counter their special interest-funded attacks and set the record straight," Pelosi wrote in a letter to Democratic supporters.

"That's why I have set a goal of raising $100,000 in grassroots donations before the August FEC fundraising deadline," says Pelosi.

Pelosi and Democrats are clearly worried that they've lost momentum on health care reform this month, and many in her caucus have been crushed by opposition at town hall events.

The next patron to come in was a Libertarian

The waitress nodded, so the Libertarian asked
her to give Jesus a cup of hot tea, "My treat."

The third patron to come into the restaurant
was a Democrat on crutches. He hobbled over to a booth, sat down and hollered, "Hey there, honey! How's about gettin' me a cold glass of Miller Light?"

He, too, looked across the restaurant and asked, "Is that God's boy over there?"

The waitress once more nodded, so the Democrat directed her to give Jesus a cold glass of beer. "On my bill," he said.

As Jesus got up to leave, he passed by the
Republican, touched him and said, "For your

Jesus also passed by the Libertarian, touched
him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Libertarian felt his back
straightening up, and he raised his hands,
praised the Lord and did a series of back flips out the door.

Then, Jesus walked towards the Democrat.

The Democrat jumped up and yelled,"Don't touch me...I'm collecting disability."

I wish you were healed but why is it funny for anyone to be on disability and collecting?

It appears you and tag-a-long are amused.
No No

Tag-a-long I would understand, but I don't understand your logic Dave.

Many returning Veterans from Iraq are on disability and they can jump up just like you.

Guess you just need to look at it through the eyes of a welfare cheat... They are not really unable to work they just choose to ride the system. So if anyone was to do something to enable them to work and earn their way like provide them with a job they would do just as the Democrat in the joke. Wink

Does this give you an authority on the discussion?

I'm no authority by any means but I see alot of ppl collecting disability when I know damn well they are able to work.
Those ppl need to take a good look in a mirror before they joke about someone else.

Yeah, I work while in pain daily. Is this what you mean by collecting and still able to work?

I just showed up at the VA representatives office as part of my retirement out processing with my medical records (it is a requirement). He copied my records and sent them to a medical review board. Afterwards I was told I earned my disability benefits. So for going through what I did, I don't believe I need to back up to get mine...Is that what you think? Off topic

Reid: Teddy's death "going to help us"

The Reno Gazette-Journal has a sit-down with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who addresses the Ted Kennedy question in, um, an interesting way.

Q: How will U.S. Sen. (Edward) Kennedy's death affect things?

A: I think it's going to help us. He hasn't been around for some time. We're going to have a new chairman of that committee, it'll be, I don't know for sure, but I think Sen. (Chris) Dodd, (D-Conn.). He has a right to take it. Either him or (U.S. Sen. Tom) Harkin, (D-Iowa), whichever one wants it can have it. I think he (Kennedy) will be a help. He's an inspiration for us. That was the issue of his life and he didn't get it done.

Dave,
Thanks for your service and your sacrifices. It amazes me that these people think that getting a disability rating from the military boards is as easy as it is getting one from the local welfare office. Through 3 surgeries and an injury in Iraq it took me almost 10 years to get my rating. It took an additional surgery outside the military in order for the review board to see all the damage.
Bob,
Since we have been through the process in the military boards and seen the results from the ones that go through the welfare office we do know. Seeing guys going through the military review and being denied for any compensation yet going to the local welfare office and getting 80% shows that the system is BEYOND flawed.

The clock is ticking on tax cheat Charlie Rangel

September 1, 2009
It hasn't gotten much attention amid news of Ted Kennedy, Obamacare and the worsening outlook in Afghanistan, but an extraordinary situation is developing in the House of Representatives. With each passing day, it's becoming more clear that the powerful committee chairman in charge of writing America's tax laws is a financial wheeler-dealer, a serial asset-hider, and a tax offender.

Rep. Charles Rangel has been in the House since 1971. He's as old bull as you get in the Democratic hierarchy, and he waited through 12 long years of Republican rule to take over as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee in 2007. Along with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and fellow Democratic power brokers Henry Waxman and Barney Frank, Rangel is playing a key role in the effort to push the president's health care, environmental, and financial initiatives through the House.

Last week, we learned that Rangel filed a grossly misleading financial disclosure report for 2007 -- failing to report at least half a million dollars in assets.

It turns out Rangel had a credit union account worth at least $250,000 and maybe as much as $500,000 -- and didn't report it. He had investment accounts worth about the same, which he also didn't report. Ditto for three pieces of property in New Jersey.

Beyond that, we've learned that Rangel has failed to report assets totaling more than $1 million on legally required financial disclosure forms going back to at least 2001.

The news comes on top of revelations last year that Rangel didn't report -- and didn't pay taxes on -- income from a villa in the Caribbean. In that matter, the Internal Revenue Service gave him sweetheart treatment; Rangel paid about $10,000 in back taxes but was not required to pay any penalty or interest.

Rangel's doings are under investigation by the House Ethics Committee, which so far hasn't taken any action. Democrats are standing behind their chairman, and minority Republicans can't do anything about it.

National Dem leaders concerned that Paterson won’t win re-election 2010

The Rev. Al Sharpton, a civil rights activist, said Sunday that he spoke to the White House and Paterson about his concern that Democrats do what is best for the people of New York. He wouldn't say whether he was advising Paterson to drop out.

The New York Times, which originally reported the request on its Web site, said that it was President Barack Obama who asked Paterson to withdraw.

The New York Times quoted a senior Obama administration official as saying that the proposal that Paterson be asked to step aside came from a White House political adviser but was approved by the president.

“Is there concern about the situation in New York? Absolutely,” The Times quoted a second Obama administration official as saying.

“Has that concern been conveyed to the governor? Yes,” the official told The Times.

The newspaper said that Obama's request was conveyed to Paterson by Rep. Gregory W. Meeks, a Democrat from Queens, N.Y.

I had a buddy get his after years of hassle. Trouble is he got it after he died. His wife told me last winter she'd give it all back if she could have her husband instead.

Now the evidence is out that the conspirators in the Whitehouse have put the strongarm on (artists and the sort????????) to promote the queer muslims agenda or their endowments from the National Endowment for the Arts will dry up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
