What are your thoughts on the NG being used for law enforcement?

They're being paid so why not utilize them? May have to declare some kind of emergency to stay within the law but so be it. They need an all out effort, shock and awe, if you will. Don't let it drag on for news fodder. Deport and prosecute tsunami.

I'll probably be OK with it, right up until they show up on my front porch. Take care. Tom Worthington

With the use of NG in New York's subway system, I was wondering what authority they have without a state of emergency?

The National Guard has been abused for years now. By their name they should be activated for emergencies in the United States.
They've been used in Iraq and Afghanistan in large numbers while Army and Marines are sitting in their barracks in the US shining their shoes.

FYI, They are part of a rotation of forces.. So they sit at home and shine shoes while Army and Marines take their place.
NG has been part of our forces since we went to all volunteer. Just never really used since we went to full time war.

Now using the NG as police, they are not trained for that. But they can be used in support. State or Fed activated.

Back in the 70's when I was in the Indiana Guard we were training for riot control during a Coal Miners strike. Never went but we trained.
IMO if we are talking them guarding the borders, then it is supposedly a constitutional/Fed responsibility and they should be activated and given live ammo with a ROE to stop crossings.

Guys I grew up with in the NG were activated for the 1967 riots in Detroit. Sent there with their M-1's and no ammo provided. Fortunately many of them were hunters that had 30-06s!
Are Army reserves still in existence once the draft ended? What do they do if they exist?
I was slated to be active reserve for 2 years and inactive for 2 after I was discharged from active duty.
Shortly after discharge I was deactivated due to a critical occupation.
