Thanks Jeff, Ray, and Tom. I was just having some fun. There was some killer racing going on. Tom, happens to all of us!

Keith, well said, sir. You and the PRP team are top notch, and the recognition is so very well deserved.

well i got the filter off the car today. cut it open and it was collapsed inside. cut it apart and thank god there was no metal in it.

new filter and oil, fired it up and it went right to 72 psi cold. let it run till the coolant temp was 180 degrees and still had 60 psi at idle.
you just cant believe how grateful i am right now. Praying

The Wix is a great filter and Wix makes the NAPA Gold line of filters also which are essentially Wix filters with NAPA badging.

I've been running Frams for 25 years, and knock on wood, never had a problem.

Jeff, get in contact with K&N about your problem they are aware of it and are pretty helpfull about the matter..they are thinking the alcohol is swelling the filter screen witch is causing them to collapse. Know a few people who have had the same problem your talking about and a friend of mine contacted them they offered to send him half a dozen filters or so to do some testing with for them. Hope this helps a little, Matt

I think he did call Matt. They told him it was the first they have heard of this problem lol....Sounds a little like MSD to me. Wink

Really glad to hear that, Jeff! Whew!

Matt, didn't know it was the alcohol causing the problem. Makes me feel better, because I have had absolutely no problem with the K&N oil filters on the Olds, and didn't want to switch.

I've had no issue with multiple K&N filters and run the same fuel (E-85) as Jeff, and have done so for 2 years.

Ive been running K&N Filters for 4 years thanks to Advance Auto and have never collapsed one on gas. Everyone that I've talked to that collapsed one was on alcohol.
Was told that the Wix,,napa gold, and K&N are all made by wix anyway.. Might be wrong!

i agree i've had kn on mine for the past two years without a hitch not sure if they recently changed something or had a bad batch or what not real sure. before that though i always ran napa golds but norwalks contingency program is pretty sweet on paying for kn stuff thats the only reason i switched.. lou napa gold and wix are the same just a private label deal..not so sure on kn i would assume that they are different but not 100% on that

i called K&N yesterday.
the guy there first said he has never heard of a problem with them collapsing. then he called me back like 30 mins later and said after talking to their race dept. that the media that they use in the filter will not flow the amount of oil at the rpms i am running.( which i dont turn over 7000 at any point in a run) he did tell me to keep an eye on the gauge and if it drops again, not to cut the filter open and just send it back to them.
the tech also told me that they are in the design stages of a new race filter with a different filter media .( but the first thing he said was he never heard of them collapsing lol)
i have had several people tell me now that they have had a problem with them.
i just know the oil that came out of the car was still translucent and no metal in it and when i cut the filter apart and laid out the pleating, it was clean also. and went right to 72 psi cold at idle and 60 psi at idle with the coolant temp at 180 degrees.

jeff, yeah its hard to say its like you only deal with a select few at each company that know whats going on i couldnt see how it could not flow enought oil at high rpm's or everyone going over that rpm would have a problem. but anyways atleast everything else is good now
