Green,
I feel that the reason for the two point pass is for people who take a vacation with their family or something along those lines. I feel that the pass is nice only because I can take a week and head to another track or try something different for a weekend. I think the pass is a great addition to the point system only for those reasons. In the past we have had a better sign up for points if the track allows for some off weekends. Myself I would live at the track if they would let me but others feel that points feel like a job come mid July. Looking like a very promising year at PRP once again, cant wait to get back at it! Dragster is done and ready to go, just a few small changes

. Looking forward to WOW next week the dragster will be there for the show.

green1Kevin,
Wouldn't it be better then to have the best 13 out of 16 or something in that line instead of giving away free point? I agree with feeling tied to a track when running points just don't agree with giving away points for free. The simple thing would have been to only count 15 out of 16 races and you must declare your off weekend before the first round of that day, then everybody would have one points day off and there wouldn't be any free points. Just my opinion and I do like the payout at the end of the season.

Balaska347We have used the pts pass before and pretty much almost everyone will need to use it at some point so its usually a wash anyway. Green I understand your point I just dont think it plays a big enough role in the results to worry about it either way.

27KeithBest way I have ever seen it done is win a round get a point. No show up pts,no best of stuff,no double pts,no 1st rd worth more than an other rd., no nothing except win a rd get a point. The "passes" just dont seem right to me.
The "best of" stuff could really change the outlook of the pts race. Lets say a guy doesnt win a race all yr but goes at least 3 rds at every one of the races. The next guy wins a couple but also has some first rd losses. Who ends up winning the pts? The first guy drops at least 3rd rd losses the other guy drops first rd losses. JMO!

jeffrey10x2i really like the way they have it set up this year.
never really was a big fan of the 2,2,2,1,1,1 thing.
if you won 2nd round all year, you was right there near the top of the list. it did keep it tight, but the 1 point per round win makes you earn every point you get.
also glad to see they limited when you can use the points pass, you cant wait till the last race and use it and have to claim it within a certain time frame after the missed race.
its gonna be an exciting year. now its time for IHRA to start posting some contingency sponsors for the weekly racers.

John_GoverSo if you show up and get your show up point, then lose first round, can you turn in your points pass and pretend you didn't show up?

sbchevyThey have your tech card showing you were there ,so i would say NO!!

That program was dropped last year.
The only SSS contingency payouts were for the Bracket Finals.

jeffrey10x2didnt know that,
guess that means no ugly decals covering up the paint this year.

i still remember what ryan would tell me about decals on his jr,
if they dont pay, they dont go on.

ChuckTLooking good, I am a big fan of the points being 1 point per round. I like the show up point.. works for both the racers and the track. Racers get something for a first round loss, instead of nothing, and the track gets racers coming in knowing they'll get at least that point if they stage. I like the points pass better than the dropping 1 or 2. I agreee with Mike, it won't matter much. And like Keith said, the drops can really affect the outcome of the points. When we did the drop 2 a couple years ago, it affected different classes a lot more than I thought it would have. Also nice to see the boost in the payouts for points.
John, points are accumulated based off of the racer's number. So if your points number is in there for first round of eliminations, you wouldn't be able to use the points pass.
Wayn3, did the weekly program actually get dropped "officially"? I noticed that there was no weekly contingency last year, but had chalked it up to the economy and sponsors having to pull back.

I can testify to that as in 09 we had more 1st round wins than anybody in our class but due to the best of we had to drop 10 points which tied us and we lost in the runoff :-)
Life is too short to wake up with regrets. Love the people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason!

green1Instead of doing the best of,why not just 13 out of 16 and you must declare if you are running for points that day before the first round and if you run the first 13 points days then that is your total, last 3 won't count no matter what.

Tony FagnilliI think if you did the 13 of 16 deal, racers would still think that they would have to be there every week. The thought would be that all of my competition is going to be there trying to do better, so, I have to be there also. The 13 of 16, or something else like that deal doesn't give the racer a break. In the 30 years that I've been racing, I joined points only twice. I think it's to much work and it takes up the entire summer.

Glenn and JoanA great guy in a yellow truck told me years ago that if you show up and just go a few rounds each week you will always qualify for the bracket finals - he's been right so far!
The 2 point pass is a great idea (JMO) cause due to work or vacation or family or whatever - sometimes a racer has to be a "no-show" and its nice to have an option.
In other words - YAHOO PRP !!! Let's go Racin'!!!!

I would think, once you stage the car you bought the race. The pass is for a "missed" points day. Or if you would break in time trials you would probably be able to use it but once you stage 1st round you raced.
