Not enough good mothers and fathers out there now. Poor parenting is the blame for most of this mess. IMHO California Screaming! Raceless in California!

Spot on! Also to WO's comment.....I know this isn't what you mean, but many even here will tell you college is the worst thing for all kids. In reality, there is no other way for engineers, chemists, doctors and nurses....the list goes on....to become what they are other than college. Does college come with some classes that young adults have to be wise enough to somewhat ignore? Absolutely. That's where the good parenting came in early. And guiding young people into degrees that actually are useful and productive helps too. And NO! Not every high school graduate is right for college. That would make no sense. And my last rant point is who in the world sets their kids up for borrowing 200k to go to college being the first thing they do in their adult life? If you have to borrow that kind of money, you didn't prepare well and you are picking the wrong school to go to. Set em up to graduate with little to no debt with a useful career and watch where their lives go! Foxtrot Juliet Bravo

While I can agree with Bucky's assessment, what happened to the day your parents set a path for you to follow. Maybe we are living in a world where that path "is" being followed. I want to think that is the minority in our country, yet media makes us think otherwise. I am a firm believer in education. As most of you fathers to daughters, do you see what I've seen in the last 20 years. We have to do most repairs since the "new" generation has no idea how to repair light bulbs, sockets, water leaks, much less change a tire or oil. Glad I taught my daughters how to do some of these things and also got them educations they could use. No basketweavers or studies on the mating habits of worms.

My "real" education began the day I got home from High School graduation, everything I owned was on the front door step with a note from my Step Father, it told me to never come home again, I never did. It was time to move on. I was homeless for 17 months, living in the back seat of my 1952 Ford convertible and working part time as a mechanic at a Sunoco Gas Station in Reading, Pennsylvania. In September of 1960 not wanting to face another Pennsylvania Winter sleeping in the back seat of a car I found full time employment working for my Uncle, (Sam) in the US Army. I am thankful for the years I lived with my parents but at 18 they owed my nothing more. They did the right thing sending me on my way. Bob
