The answer is it depends! But there is no reason in the world you can't build one with only one shock! My mono shock has gone .965 in 60'. The reason some use two is due to how the rear moves vs the shock, if the rear has too much leverage over the shock then 2 can be required.

Right. New chassis is going to be a Mullis. Old plan was an M&M in which case I already have a new pair of shocks. I figured I would just do the mono shock from Mullis and sell these JRI"s I have.

I have owned both. No difference. Been plenty fast in both.

Have it built for both and see which you like better. It's not that much money on top of a new build.

There’s no down side to a dual shock and mine seems to work…

Back to back passes in 3500+DA with a track temp of 120-130.

Yeah my instinct pushes me that way. I just seem to think 2 is better than 1 of course everyone has a preference.

Mikey,

You should be more worried about your crew chiefs than my 60 foot times, and I told you before, just let me know how much money you want to loose and we have a bet!

Just for you I'd take lessons from the cone crusher on how to post time slips! I hear he is a pro at this. Big Grin

I can also tell you that the fastest Super Comp cars in the country are mostly dual shock swing arm cars.

I would have it built for both so you can make your call on what you like best.

I ran booth also with the same car! I will say this, it takes 2 economy to mid range shocks to do required work that one higher end shock can do when the power levels increase! And from what I have seen with my car and others, this area of the car is already crowed, no need to add another shock here unless it's absolutely necessary! My car works very good with the mono shock deal and it also worked very good with a duel shock setup.

Also as I said, which many have no clue about, the ratio of shock movement vs rear end movement is important. Whenever you purchase a shock(s) for your typical mono shock car or the ones setup for two shocks, you need to know this ratio so the shock manufacturer knows how to valve the shock, in fact they should be asking you for this info! This ratio varies quite a bid from builder to builder and also the setup of bottom bars will change this ratio!

What is the "theory" of the mono shock setup? There have been a lot of different approaches to dragster suspensions. Is the Mono still a popular build option? Asking out of curiosity.

Talked to Danny Nelson onetime about this. He told me there really isn't any difference and the both work good. Just has to set them up a little different. But we was talking about a bracket dragster. Not a T/D car running 4.0 and faster.

In the old days, most of the real quick cars were hardtails but those are fairly rare anymore.
