I just built a 496, 12.5 srp pistons, howards 680/680 flat tappet cam shaft, 272/278 @ 50.Its in a 3200 lb nova with me in it.
I have 3 head choices. One in set of 188 casting with 2.25/1.88 valves not port work.
One set of brodix bb2 plus, no port work and a set or procomps that oval and have been ported out and flow around 370 at 700 lift. I want to shift around 6800 and go thru the trap around 7000. All suggestions are appreciated?

My choice is the brodix bb2s. Blend in the bowls and bolt them on. Those heads work well for me. Have used them on a 468 and a 502. Both ran well for how little we actually had in them.

It's like a multiple choice test. For the best answer rule out the incorrect answer. For me it would go like this,,,,.1. I can't run the Brodix because it's too big. If I had roller cam around 800 lift and 14:1 compression they'd be perfect, but I don't.

2. I can't run the Pro Comps because I'm American and never fell for the false song of globalism...

3. Plus the 188 steel rectangular port is the perfect for the parts I have in play crossing around 7000 rpms.

There's only one real choice. Zero deck the block and spend a little extra porting a strip dominator intake and I'll bet it'll stroll a lot better than many might think. 6100 converter.

The BB2's hands down! They win in both performance and weight savings!

I have a super Victor intake brand new, I have a 1050 Dominator running E85. I'm trying to avoid any more block work since it's a completely together and head work since I have three sets of heads. I don't mind running a little bit more than 7,000 through the traps I just don't want to go real high. Thanks

Sounds good. I ran a similar combo in my Nova for years with a set of 990 steel castings. It had to make 750 hp plus. I had 475 lbs of ballast in the trunk to make the car 50/50 for a 10" bias slick Super Pro bracket racing. It ran 10.32 134mph at 3800 plus lbs. 700 lift roller camshaft, strip dominator 390 gear. Shift 6600 and cross around 7000. 468 cid. Methanol.

Pay close attention to the valve work.

For accuracy come to think of it this was a 427 plus 060 with 990 steel castings, strip dominator intake on methanol 685/692 269/276 11O Lunati roller camshaft. It ran 6.50's and 6.60's 1/8 mile and 10.32 134 mph 1/4 mile @3800 plus lbs.

The reason I mention this is, I never ran the 468 1/4 mile however it ran 6.30's - 6.40's 1/8 @ 3800 plus lbs (same weight) with another set of 990 steel castings I had and a Dart intake, same cam 685/692 269/276 110 Lunati roller camshaft part # 50204.

I looked up the cam for ya because it might be something to look at down the line. It's easy on parts and makes decent power.

Good luck

What size tire and gear were you running?

I always ran a small 10" tire. For Super Pro bracket racing, for consistency I'd run ballast in the trunk to compensate for a nose heavy BBC front to back weight. So I did that and ran a tame 3.70 gear with the 468 engine and a 3.90 gear with the 427 engine, with 475 lbs of ballast in the trunk to make the car 50/50 front to back weight. This was in the 2000's, so the track prep was no way near as good as it is today. They've made big improvements there and on the smoothness of tracks depending where you race. The two tracks local to me are now smooth as glass.

So long story short, looking at your car in the avatar, it looks like a similar scenerio. So here's a few idea's you may be able to put to use.

So for what Im thinking you are saying is that the 188 heads should work pretty good then huh?

Yes, The 188 is identical to the 990 head I ran. The 188 casting # signifies it as a replacement head for the 990.

Are the BB plus' 315? We had a 496 with a 680 roller with dart pro 310s....all out of the box stuff. Ran 5.90s at 3025lbs on gas. Woulda been a lil faster with a better converter.

Are asking if they are 315 intake runner? Or part number? I'm not sure on the part but it is a 312 runner. I have a new 5600 convertor.

I miss-typed. I meant 312 runner. The converter we used was around 5200. This was a buddy's car and we just used what he had. I think you'd be good with the bb2 plus.

My 496 is a tall deck truck block,so your intake and rods will, differ from mine..but your set up should run atleast 5.90's with ease.I still have a 427 that have been 5.90's and avr 6.0's.....
