any upholstery shop should be able to make you a cloth covered foam pad to fit the seat, then just use Velcro to hold it in place. If the seat came from a known chassis builder, contact them, they may have ready made seat pads.

I have run the aluminium seat uncovered for years in my vega. No one has ever said anything to me about it, even at nhra events.

NHRA doesn’t care if the seat is upholstered, but your butt sure might!

If it has some extra room you could do incert.I just did insert for mine for to make fit better and safety. I used Garvin motor sports kit only about 275.00 with nomex cover.Well plus who ever does cover using their material .

Ya that would definitely be rough on the back side with out it being covered. Mine is completely covered with the padding on the bottom and back.

The rulebook does state that a seat should be upholstered. I know I wouldn't want to climb into a bare metal seat on a sunny day!

If you are talking about bed liner if you blasted with glass beads or just sanded the surface well, I believe it would stick.

Another option is something like this that you could install snaps to hold it in or use velcro.

When i was into Kart racing, KT100/pipe class. I had a complete seat cover/padded. you just put it on. Elastic sides. You thought you were sitting in a comfy recliner. Not expensive at all.Think it came from Comet Kart sales. Also naturally i always ran i rib vest. Keeps your rib cage together.
