I have several of these in service. Melling made in USA standard volume high pressure billet oil pump. I've run one on my personal stuff since 2008. This is the upgraded sharks tooth design billet pump we bolted on a 3.875 stroke 4.185 bore 427 sbc. Good stuff I can confidently highly recommend. Good and knowledgeable people to do business with.

I used a Melling 10552ST with THIS pickup and a Stefs 8” pan for up to 3.75” stroke.

The billet pump you show lists for a 8.25” pan I believe.

I can confidently highly recommend this pan from Milodon as well. I've had this on my personal stuff 12 years. Five quarts plus filter, it'll tell you when you're a quarter quart low, the pressure will drop when you step off at the finish line. Nice united w/ Melling billet pump.

The pickup Milodon offers for a cast pump in conjunction with this pan however, I would not recommend for drag racing.

Uncle Tony at BES. There's another source I can highly confidently recommend. Funny thing about that deal was around the time we were told the heads, camshaft and intake were to be done we called late in the afternoon to get an update on progress, no answer. The next morning UPS delivered the entire top end. Kind of caught us off guard because we hadn't given BES a penny at that point. We had a little problem with the camshaft no fault of BES. Tony took care of us on that as well. To say the deal went pretty smooth would be putting it mildly.

Not sure I'd even consider bracket racing this combo though, the camshaft is approaching an inch of lift. With a little better crankshaft, we'd have no problem spinning this thing 9,000 rpm. Probably will anyway, hopefully.

Schumann pumps
http://www.schumannoilpumps.com/

These pumps dump bypass back into pan not the pump intake. Low drag , lower pressure more volume. We run the small block pump on the BB 427 @8k plus. Stock melling 55 work fine but there is better out there.

At what cubic inch?

I dealt with a few oil pumps and have found nobody seems to make a "good" wet sump setup. I built my first pan and winged it out to the sides with a Melling M55 pump, worked decent. I broken a couple pickups, then tried a Melling billet pump, that was the worst one to date. The pickup is so close to the rear of the pan it instantly 0's oil pressure when you lift. Had a big name company make me a very nice pan to use with the billet Melling,......worse than with my pan. I put the cast M55 pump back on with a better pickup I found. Worked ok until the pump body broke. I now have a Moroso 22171 billet pump that I was able to disassemble, mill about 3/4" off the pickup area, then cut and weld a 1/4" step into my oil pan. This seems to work fine at 7500 rpm. Pressure still works it's way to 0 for a couple seconds, but it doesn't hurt anything.

What’s your thoughts on the cast shark tooth pump. I plan to use one on my new 388. I have used the same milodon pan for about 12years. Highly recommended that pan to anyone running a wet dump small block. That particular pan sped my car up .10 over a milodon full length box pan.

I have both the standard Melling 10552 in one 388 and the Melling 10552ST in the other 388. Both are Dart blocs (SHP + Little M Comp) with a Stefs 1021 pan that is 6 qts total w/ filter.

Until I switched to the Kevko pickup that I listed in my first post I would loose oil pressure stopping from 140 mph. With this pickup I have stopped as hard as possible and it always maintains 60+ psi.

Dart specifies in their instructions that you have to use a “standard volume” pump. The 10552 pump in my engines are 10% more volume and work properly.

Carl Hinkson of CNC Blocks Northeast said that this 10552 pump is also acceptable in Dart blocks and has used many times.

Hmmm, I don't know much about them but I will say the only problem I've ever had using a cast Melling pump, is the pickup breaking off. So never again because I got lucky once. I figure if I run a Made in USA pro series crankshaft, rods and aftermarket block it's worth the billet pump. Sure, I've seen the pickup gusseted and reinforced. Then the added weight gusseting, reinforcing the pickup, the pump then breaks in half. From what I can tell, the longer it takes to get the right parts, the better it is on the wallet in the long run. Haste makes waist, Patience IMO. It's kinda like buying chinese garbage, sure you can get on the track a little sooner but for how long before it costs you an arm and a leg. And a never again.

You're right about these pans, that's why they're somewhat hard to get at times. Good call!

How is the pan clearance with the billet pump? Did you use a felpro one piece gasket or a conventional multi piece gasket?

Mike, at what cubic inch did you make 875 with 23° heads?

Yeah, one piece Felpro. look up this part #, It could be 8.25 not sure. I calculated depth 12 years ago when I did mine I can't remember. I just measured my pan from rail to bottom of pan using a straight edge, it's 8.075.

If you're considering this pan and pump, this is the correct part #.

The Milodon specification underlined may be misleading. The Melling 10055-825SS is the part # you're looking for with the shark tooth, 10050-825SS without. The pan measures 8.075 - 8.100

Already have the pan. Have two, one on the 406 in the car now that’s at least 12 years old and a new one still in the box for the new 388. I haven’t measured the depth of the new yet. Down to the last few things to buy and oil pump is one of them. Another week or two won’t kill me. This has been a long time coming together anyway.
