Autometer vs racepak
Does anyone have experience with the autometer lcd competition dash who has also used racepak? What are your thoughts on the display, dependability, and data collection of both? Thank you

Thanks for this, I’ll add it to a 3 way comparison. Is there anyone who has used the RPM system and the race pak system? Pros and cons?

Racepak is the class of the field and will do some things RPM won't. Like start a Go-Pro for you if that is something that is important. Racepack will also integrate with things that RPM won't.

Racepak is more expensive overall. I get the same data from my RPM as anyone else does from Racepak.

Racepak dash looks better to me but the RPM dash works well. I don't use the RPM dash but have installed a couple of them.

You will hear quite often that Racepak is better to get because people at the track can help you with them because more people have them. That is probably true but I never found it to be a problem with my RPM. As I said though, the Racepak is the gold standard.

don't have any 1st hand experience with it but it's the best looking dash IMO and it's starting to show up in high end dragsters.

Ed, have you looked at the auto meter lcd? Or know anyone with one. I’m liking its LCD display much like the one you posted

I haven't seen the newest Autometer dash in person, the original one I didn't like the look.

I just put a RPM in the Super Stocker. Something simple, but expandable. I do know no matter which you buy the sensors are way overpriced.

I bought all my own from another source and repined them to work with their cables.

Ed is correct. Consider looking at FuelTech. Although it is EFI capable, has an ecu, it will work with any system. Probably the best value for the money right now and the display resolution is very good.

All 4 of the mentioned displays have software that you should first download into your computer / laptop and take for a test drive.

I’m a Holley user and the Dash display resolution, programming capability, features with an ecu (which I use) are excellent, Best imho, but expensive. My second choice would be FuelTech.

You could always EFI it and use the recording capabilities of the Holley HP! This is a graph from my street car. Wanted to see where the converter dropped on the shift.

Thanks guys for the insight. I started in 2 directions and now I have 4 lol. Any direct comparisons will be helpful. I am leaning towards a LCD display though like fuel tech and auto meter

one important thing to consider is support. With Racepak, I have local support from Greg Kelly who competes at the NHRA D1 Divisional events as well bracket racing events and also posts here and Racepak is at most NHRA National events as well Todd Paton aka Performance Data Systems who sells and supports Racepak

There is NOT an easier system to use than the RPM unit. It is "old guy" easy and you do not have to be a rocket scientist to figure out how to get it to talk and download. Randy is very helpful, and ususally gives his cell phone number to people to call from the racetrack with issues. I have myself called him at a racetrack, and he either answered, or called me back in 15 minutes. The 1 time i had a main box go bad, he shipped me one, as soon as i provided the tracking number for the one i was sending back to him.

You will get very good support from RPM, and the dash is good looking, also.

I have the DL10 with rpm, driveshaft, accelorometer, and O2. A good friend has RPM with the dash and about 10 sensors. It is reliable and RPM answers the phone.

I think Holley owns racepak and there is a reason for the LINK on the racepak site for how to return your unit. Wink

These guys sell the senors, temp, travel, pressure etc etc for what they honestly should sell for

Also dont forget the Holley systems. Can do just about anything, you don't need to run the EFI controller but it can run ignition, data logging etc at way less money that racepack. Since they are owned by the same company is it any wonder.

I do not use it personally, but X2 on the FuelTech... I met Andre Nunez last year at the Galot Fling and he spent about 20 minutes showing me the system and all of its features and capabilities on his car.... That system is impressive.
