Well, I think I finally talked myself into data aquisition. This is counter to my attempt to simplify but, I don't think I have a choice here.
I'm thinking I need O2 and MPH minimum. So what's best for me? An Innovate DL-32 or just an LM-1 with an Aux Box? nomad Bruce Guertin It's tourist season here, so why can't we shoot 'em? Well, ain't that just Ducky! |

The Sportsman racepak is your best bet. Get with Greg Kelley. Once you download your first run you'll be hooked ...

Ditto on Greg Kelly...He's very helpful to the unfortinute like meself
I started with the LM-2 and after 1/2 season it's outgrown so go with the Sportsman racepak http://www.motorsportsinnovations.com/ |

RacePak is bar far the best in the business, at least that is most people are most comfortable with. What bracket racers cant get past is the price....RacePak isn't that sportsman friendly...even with their "Sportsman" system. Sure, the base system is cheap enough, but it doesn't do anything without spending $200+ per sensor and 6-800 for O2's and well over $1000 for EGT's. There are many choices out there and some that are true Sportsman minded without giving up performance!

I was thinking about going to electronic fuel injection with FAST, has on board data gathering.
Anyone have an opinion on this feature? Ryan Norton |

Ryan I love my FAST. I do believe that racepak software is better but efi with internal datalogger is nice. Greg Kelley runs a fast sysem and he put a racepak on aswell cause he liked the racepak software better....

Thanks for the photo bracket racer. I was going to ask on MSV what you were using. Guess I don't gotta now.

Take a look at the RPM system also. We've got one and am very happy with it. You can talk to James Monroe as I believe he is a dealer for them.

i love my RPM, very user friendly and support is 2nd to none! all of the sensors are also about 1/2 the cost of the Racepac stuff.

For most bracket racers I recommend the DL-32 package with Engine RPM, shaft speed, 1 O2, g-meter (up to 2.0 G's) and one pressure for $747. You have to wire it up and do the channel mappings but it's straight forward. A bit more laptop skill is needed than the Racepak.
If the racer wants the convenience of a pre-wired pre-configured deal I recommend the Racepak sportsman. It's $699 for Engine RPM, Shaft RPM, voltage, and G meter. Add a pressure for $249 add an O2 for $359 (usually need a $75 cable to get from the recorder to the first sensor). I also recommend the RP if a guy runs some kind of qualified class or NHRA national / divisional with minimal runs. Other factors: the dl-32 samples at 12 sample a second while the RP is 100/sec. Software is similar but the RP is a bit more intuitive and comes with the USB converter and driver pre loaded and it comes with the memory stick reader. With the dl-32 you buy them at a computer store for $75 and occasionally there is some issues with Vista or some oddball laptops. Edelbrock is in the process of moving to a new box - I'd recommend waiting till they get more in the field before going with that. The older systems are still available, have pre-configured harness & software. Support for the hardware has been good, software and usability could use some improvement. Motorvation (TJ Tracey & Mark Pickens company) is working on a new system to be released for the 2010 season. It's based on the EFI Technologies box so should be a good system. Regarding the internal logging of the FAST and BS3, it's cheap and gives you some key items, but the software is pretty limited. The have some options to add pressures, EGT's and shaft speed, but I don't think a G-meter. Also, I'm pretty sure it's not legal to give the shaft speed to the EFI in most NHRA classes. Let me know of any other questions. |

Greg Fast does have a gmeter now (I have one) that wire's into their CAN system "In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm and three or more is a congress.-- John Adams" 2007 IHRA D4 Top ET Champ |

Yes Sir! The flyer you posted is for their i50...that is not a data logger, but a digital display that will record all sensors. One run then over rights...is not down-loadable, but viewed on screen. I have one in my car and will never go back to gauges...their i100 is the real deal logger! Amazing how many of these companies stick their head in the sand when it comes to o2. That's the most important part!
