If the tracks are gonna be slick because of the glue shortage,I am thinking I have a 4.3 v6 and a 283. Could you run 8.0 with the v6? 1/8th mile?

Well sine it is 3/4 of a 350 sbc I woulf think you should be able to build same as 350 and get at least 3/4 the power and really figure little more. They run pretty good in factory trim. We have had 2 Astro vans with them.Never been nice to them and they took it and kept getting it.

I have always wanted to build a 4.3 to see how strong it would run. Another comparison would be to a 283 since cubic inches is cubic inches.

If you luck runs like mine you will build it get it to track and the glue shortage will be over and they will be spraying more than ever.

Are planing to build with all the goodies you can or go mild build with good heads, cam and maybe high compression.

Wondering how many go fast pieces are out there for a 4.3.

The 3800 V6 with factory Eaton M90 supercharger which came in Grand Prix, and some park avenues, had pretty stout rods and crankshafts. Cams are available as well as headers and those little superchargers with water cooled intercoolers that sandwich underneath the blower, they are capable engines.

Even if you could make it work with the V6, what about that 283? I mean hey, you wouldn't exactly be reinventing the wheel. Smile Take care. Tom Worthington

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

Cranks in the 3.8L and 4.3L are the weak point with offset ground rod pins.
The 3.8L is a baby LS right down to its symmetrical port heads and deep skirted block. Find a forged crank and some good rods and give 'er hell!

Organized people are just too lazy to look for their $h!t.

On the street, the fuel injected 3.8's were smooth and sweet, and the 4.3's were rough and rougher.

Had two n4.3's an d rarely issue with them. Not sure what would be rough about them. Lots of miles on each above 250k

the stock 4.3's were kinda brash. They made acceptable torque down low but fell off quickly, and they didn't make a lot of horsepower being 262". They never really impressed me. The 3.8's were the sweetheart GM v6's, liked them better than the 4.3's. But the 3.8's, where were a lot of variants and parts don't interchange between some of them so you have to be careful. This is speaking of the Buick based 3.8, not the Chevy 3.8 (which was a 75% of a 305 and 25% of the power).

In years past there were some Nascar V6's. Shared-pin oddfire crankshafts, they made around 600hp give or take. Local guy runs one on a dirt track and does really well with it given the rule breaks for having a 6 cylinder engine. The downside is that they sound like absolute garbage! I hate the sound of any v6 I don't believe there is one that sounds "good". So on that, run the 283 until it busts and by then maybe they'll have some glue. That or they'll be forcing us all to build electric drag cars.
