The lingering every year question "Trailer Streak Removal"
Ok so before I get beat up all over the forum, I know its been asked many times already. I've tried almost every method out there listed from Awesome at the Dollar Store to Purple Power etc. You would think after many years of trailer existence that the manufacturers would have a spot on perfect scientific solution for our problem with black streaks.

My question is, has anyone come up with a working fix for this (and I dont mean buy a black trailer) Given all the new cleaner technology of today? Problem I have is unless you polish and wax the trailer you never really get rid of them unless you use the Awesome chemicals that end up still leaving clean streaks in the finish ans harming the finish. I have 48 feet to clean and trailer is waxed every 3 months and still gets them.

The fix is to stop the streaks and to do that, you need to paint the roof.

This product works very well, is not harsh and won't take paint off like all the strong cleaners will.

Painting or coating the roof will help, for sure, did that on my last trailer. But the aluminum on the sides at the top of the where it meets the roof also causes black streaks. If the trailer builders would use anodized or powder coated aluminum that would cure that…….

I have a white trailer and bought J moulding for vinyl siding. loosened the screws and slid it in the aluminum moulding at top of side walls. Like a mini eavestrough. Fixed

All you need to do is keep the roof clean.

The black streaks are so bad on mine till I am considering replacing the panels or a full rap. I am sick of looking at it. Maybe sell and buy another new one. Maybe buy a gray one this time.

For me 53 feet of painting a roof is gonna take a bunch of time lol

Problem I have with those self adhesive drip rails is how good the adhesion actually is. I have the so called best adhesive on things, cleaned the surface and followed directions exactly and all that to have them fall off.

I have a small leak in the front of my trailer. Pretty sure it's one of the seams. I'm thinking about doing the Crazy Seal coating on top. It's not cheap though, 800 bucks for my 48 footer. I would assume that it would also help with the black streak problem.

I've also thought about just cleaning and resealing the seams. Anyone out there done just that with success?

Cash,

Believe it or not I repair a leak in my grey water tank with spray on Flex Seal (the stuff on TV) Worked like a charm.
10+ years ago The seam on my trailer roof where the stainless cap meets the flat of the aluminum leaked bad. I went to an RV store and bought some Dicor 501LSW-1 Self-Leveling Lap Sealant. Unscrewed the joint and cleaned everything then squirted some in between the joint, screwed it back down the laid about a 6 inch wide puddle all across the top. It self leveled and no more problems.

I'll tell you though that flex seal really impressed me..

An addition.. When trying to fix the seam on the roof. An RV store recommended using the 6 inch wide Butyl tape, expensive and it still leaked..

I have done it years before on my trailer with some RV lap sealant. I only did front of trailer at joints and leak stopped. Worked good for 8-10 yrs plus. This weeks project is cleaning all joints and ends on roof and resealing all joints. 24ft Vintage. I'm using OTR brand Seal Grey sealant designed for diesel truck trailers from a parts chain called FleetPride here in Alabama. They had a full supply of roof sealants and patch products in stock locally. Maybe they have a website, hope this helps.

^^^ That is called Manus Bond. That is what i use to repair the semi trailer leaks with. Or use the 12" patch plates and the Manus bond. Warning lol Wear gloves. Nasty.... You can put that stuff on during a rain storm and it will stick.Literally when applying during the rain, it will separate the actual wet surface water from the sealer. weird.

About 2 years ago, I coated my roof with Henry Solar Flex (purchased from Home Depot 5 gallons) and installed the J Channel. While it did help, it did not eliminate streaking, but was worth the investment to me. I also wax my trailer usually 2 times a year. 28ft ATC.

I need the small gutters! Roof seam.. I just did this. Took me 4 full days. Where the alum roof meets the extruded aluminum the factory used asphalt sealer with mesh. Pressure washed first, I bought an HD 4” wire wheel , pulled the trailer away from everything, stripped out all the cracked and old asphalt. Big job but it’s worth it. Note; that stuff is hot when u wire wheel it ! I had a few blisters where it hit my arms. Then hit it with my leaf blower for loose stuff and by hand a large wire brush to knock off buggers. I went out 8 inches from the caps like the factory, put down product, worked it in then cut fiberglass mesh 4” wide over the seam with a finish coat. The factory applies the white product over the top. I have not recoated the white and might not. It’s quite a job and I have the time. No more leaks and should be good for 10 or more??

I coated my roof with this.

Stopped the streaks and also fixed a very small leak I hadn't been able to locate.

What Prep work was needed when you applied this?

I've washed most of the paint off my POS. I keep saying I'm going to get it painted with white single stage automotive paint. No more worrying about cheap powder coated aluminium. Right now it just needs a sticker on the back.
