Was ask this other day and knowing there is no exact number. What's wheelbase on most bracket dragsters. A decent range works like 240 to 260 or what ever.

I know my old TA/D was 285 and most alky cars are that or 300 for some. FED is 225 max allowed and hell another 6' just be dang big time long front end.

Most builders list standard bracket dragsters from 235 to 245. I'm in a 225 hardtail.

I think most bracket dragsters are 240" max...
I always try to line up with the other driver going to the finish line so I had my new car built at 250"...
My logic is if I line up on the driver that "should" put me 10-ish inches ahead at the stripe.

Seems too simple huh?

235" was the standard until about 4 years ago.... most builders are now building cars between 240" and 245" the extra 5-10" are mostly in the engine bay area to give extra room

My 2014 racecraft is 243 ... My buddies 2017 racecraft is 247..

Looked at a new Miller car the other night that was 247.

So they seem to keep getting longer.

I have a new 185" so far really like it for driving the stripe

My Spitzer hard tail car was 255"...

My 2008 American is 243”

Most are between 240 and 250 on newer cars these days.

My Undercover is 248

I've had 2, 4 link dragsters

First one was 215" wb and Racetech I have had for 10 years is 235" wb

Old car was faster reacting and not as smooth/stable as my current car.

Longer wheelbase is definitely better feeling to me as ET's got faster and higher MPH....

I have run 180 in the 235" car and it felt like it always does....smooth and stable...


And It fits in a 26' trailer with cabinets up front....

SO how long before someone pushes it to limit and we 300" have bracket car needing half football field to turn around in?
Don't get me wrong IMO longer cars work better in every way,well except turn around,loading and shop requirements. I am prime example FED is 225 because thats limit in 95% of nostalgia class' And I thought about having two front halfs.One for nostalgia and one longer for brackets.Even to point that front half is a slip in and bolt deal in front of motor. Could also shorten if wanted,doubt will ever happen.LOL

I've been 215 mph at 225", 225 mph at 240", and 196 mph in a fly weight 260" car. All hardtails.

The 225 was easy to drive until it wasn't but I stuck it completely 100% sideways in high gear and saved it one time, guarantee I couldn't have done that with the 260 car. The 260 car always felt loose. If it wasn't for that one bad experience in the 225 car I would have eventually gone 230 mph in it and never thought twice. Mike Smith did it in D3 T/D so not that big of a deal.

The 240 car drove like a dream except for one backwoods track with a hard transition at 400'. It never got totally stupid but I wasn't so comfortable that I was willing to saw the wheel at 170+ even though I think I could have probably got away with it.

My TA/D was old TF car built by Mr Swindal and was dream to drive. Thinking back that car never had tire shake,even with the funny car tune up I threw in it Was 275". Never had it side ways because it went straight as arrow. There is reason every big name TF racer in late 80 had Swindhal car.

My old Spitzer 230" was side ways in TA/D trim and some how I saved it.Think its called luck. Hey I had Blaine Johnson scared.He was affraid I would go right again and hit him. His 5.88 to my 6.30 meant that was only thing he was scared about.LMAO

My 2001 Bos is 257". Car drives like it's on rails.

I own a 2019 200" Danny Nelson Racecraft and I noticed last week that Racetech and Mcilvain race cars as well as American have built 200" cars. I joined the short Wheelbase dragster ranks in 2007 with a 185" Landshark. They aren't for everyone but a very valid argument for short wheelbase.
