I have my trans apart and have a question about my dual ringed servo. I have the split ring plastic/nylon, not-cast ring seals. They are NOT O-rings, just square cornered and split. I need new ones, my question is, are these just standard ring seals I can get at the auto parts store? Or are these specialty units from FTI, ATI, TCI etc ??

If you are doing a bench job, update the servo assmy to a Sonnax unit. This corrects the pin bias issues that have plagued the glides since birth. Reg parts store? I doubt it.
Jegs and Summit sell the seals also by them selves.This servo kit helps tremendously with band life. Best money you will ever spend.

These are special Teflon rings from FTI,TCI or ATI or Sonnax. I like to use one Teflon and one Metal ring in the Servo. Since the Teflon rings seem to wear out faster then the Metal ones.Also it is a good idea to upgrade to the newest servo from Sonnax to correct the Pin Bias effect the P/G have had since birth. Like TD3550 recommended. Smart-Tech Ratio-Style Servo Kit #28821-10K is the one you need and want.

The Teflon sealing rings are aftermarket as mentioned.

about the servo upgrade, while it is true we raced many years with the OE servo design the Sonnax kit is a good, low-cost upgrade.

Sonnax 28821-20k is the supported pin servo system which should be standard in every pg built to correct the inherent problems with this trans. 28821-10K is another option if you want something a tad bit fancier with a few added options. I also like to use 1 metal ring and 1 Teflon ring supplied just by preference.
Yes we did use stock stuff for years and guys still do. With the increased power today and the increased line pressure we run to handle the added power, the servo problem has compounded. Anyone not stepping up to these servo designs is either uneducated or living in the past. Sonnax video clearly shows the data without a doubt in video format for those who dislike reading which really makes the decision easy.

I have a data recorder to look at and I would like to know how everyone determines exactly how long it takes to make the shift. Do you just measure the time from shift point to converter fall back?

I have never had a single band problem so how would you determine the need for one of the Sonnax servo kits?

My last freshen I added the Sonnax kit. I don't feel anything "seat of the pants" difference, but no reason not to do the upgrade.

There'd be a lot of high end 2 speed powerglides for sale over the last several years, if it weren't for these advancements.

Iv'e used all three, Super Servo, Ratio and guided pin, depending on approach.

Line pressure on the low side on the Ripper Nova transmission, makes for a quick shift - guided pin. You can feel the difference easily.

Ringing off input shafts with line pressure on the high side, guided pin and spring kit is the hot ticket.

I do, if you see it start to drop you know right away you have a problem developing. I run a Coan adjustable regulator in my valve body and I set it exactly where I want it.

A pressure transducer in the 1/8 port on the servo cover. I set my pressure about 280 and its pretty steady between 280-295 during the run.
