question on an other form about seals on race engine. I have never ran valve seals on my stuff, but it is old Top Alcohol stuff and not even machined for seals. Then how much oil going down intake valve when you have 50# boost in port?

Wondering how many running valve seals on your stuff?

Every engine I build gets them on both valves.

Agree, on intake only. Non boosted BBC. I know brodix sends theirs out with both, I recheck their work and blend and take seal off exhaust.

The aluminium heads, bronze guides and stainless valves and temperature needs a little oil so they don't guall to each other. Had a steel head done by a machine shop once that ended up seizing and bending the valves when they hit the pistons. Small blocks just used a flat ring or deflector for oil control, BBC used a bonnet and the pc seals are similar, a little oil for lube is better than bent parts. A well known engine builder told me it was a good idea, I figured he knew way more that I did.

No reason not to run them on a bracket motor! Get the clearances right also and you won't have to worry about extra oil to the exhaust stem!

Oil in the combustion chamber is not good!

Leaveing seals off to insure oil to prevent valve sticking in guide is bull. Get clearances right to start with you wont have a problem. Sealsneed to be in place to control oil flow. Without you get oil in chamber (bad news) or oil smoke from exhaust.

Have good reason not to run them. Guides not machined for them. Have never run them except on intakes on oem bbc aluminum heads, well on street stuff.
As for oil in combustion chamber, minor amount and don't run on the edge detonation wise.Little wisp of smoke out exhaust doesn't hurt anything. Plus makes working on heads a pain since most seals are not happy when you pull valves back thru them cpl times.

Was figuring most ran them on intakes and few on both.Another not at all kind of surprise.

You seamed to have all the reasons and answers so why this post?

And for those that run them on the intake and not the exhaust, that's a monkey see. monkey do deal!

Did not say it was answer for anyone else. I was stating why I did it like I wanted. Plus posted because I felt like it.

So you created a tread, asked a question, received responses, didn't like some because you had good reason not to run seals because heads weren't machined for them which is like saying I run 1.55" OD springs even though the cam requires 1.625" because the heads aren't machined for that size, and state I did it the way I liked too.... and created the tread because you could.....

OK,, I guess! It is a free country. Wink

Well Chris next time you're wondering about something I sure as hell wouldn't ask what other people thought about it.
My opinion is your blown engine doesn't need seals.
Boost not vacuum in your intake ports certainly isn't going to suck oil past the guide. And the exhaust doesn't have much vacuum either.
And like you said, the little that may get in after shutdown is just a puff during start up.

No b!tch outs, just my humble opinion because you asked for them.

Guess the blown part is misleading. I said my parts where old stuff from top alcohol setup that had 50 lbs boost. My setup is just those parts with injection.

I never asked what they thought about it. I asked how many here ran seal on theirs. I did not ask if I should nor did I say they should or should not. I stated I did not and some reasons why. I guess having different opinion and stating it now means you are saying its only way or something.

Where did I ask if I should run seals?
Where did I say others should or should not?
Where did I argue either point?
Only time I said anything in any kind of *****y way was when I was replied to in *****y way.

So most here do different and that means I need to do same? That would kind of follow the statement made monkey see monkey do wouldn't it.

Not directed an any one post but response to points from different ones.

Chris, there are a lot of guys on here with good grammar and spell check, but they can't hide their lack of comprehension.

Carry on!

I never ran seals on intake or exhaust. My reason? They cost money, and I'm tight.
