Has anybody sent off a pair of dominator carbs to one of the 'carb modifiers'? What were your results...good or bad?

I know that some are going to reply.....Send them to ???? and they will fix you up! Tell them Billy Bob sent you, he is my bud!

What I am asking is .......How much performance increase did you gain or lose after the modification?

What was your cost benefit?

Would you do it again.....or do you wish you had the carbs back as they were?

Of course, we have to compare apples to apples. I sent in 1050's but got back 1250's is not a valid comparison.

Bob, if two carbs flow the same most likely they will run real close to each other IF they are both set up to meter fuel right. In the past, there was a little more mystery in how and where to make changes. If you have an O2 system or a data recorder with O2's, it's much easier to see what is going on throughout the run, still looking at the plugs to confirm the readings. If the carbs you have idle well, come off idle clean, run clean and plugs look good as you already know, unless they flow more air you won't likely see a significant change.

Mark, I agree completely with what you said regading similar airflows.

Now.....are the 'carb modifiers' actually making any improvements over the dominator setup? Better on the dyno? Was it faster in the car? Did their fuel curve work better or worse than stock? Sometimes they feel so much more responsive but run slower down the track.

Anybody have any answers?

So...you are saying that if I send a box stock 1000HP to PS for instance, because he claims up to 40hp gain. If I see any gain it is most likely coming from increased air flow?

That would depend on the fuel curve of the box stock carb, and how close it fits the engine it's put on. 40 HP is a lot, the metering would have to be pretty screwed up to gain that much from metering alone.

That's a great point. If the airflow is sized correctly (big assumption) and is not SIGNIFICANTlY altered.....then it would appear that the primary area for improvement would have to be the fuel metering curve. No two engines are the same, but it does make you think.

If you have a car with a 'less than optimum combo' (I.e. a converter that might be a bit tight), then a corrected fuel curve might show a substantial improvement.

Or.....you have a signal situation where an annular discharge venturi might help out.

I am not trying to diss the carb modifiers. In many cases they may be able to get you something that works better.

A lot of issues would seem to be corrected if the correct carb was chosen for the application.

Again.....Anybody sent theirs off? What were your results? Would you do it again?
