I put the new SS Rotors and a fresh set of Gold pads on today. I have a double points race next Sat. so hope they work.

The steel rotors I put on before the PBIR 3 day and Citrus (and took off today) had already started pad build up and that crappy sound. Stopped fine

Has anyone tried the B5022 pads? SS rotors are getting trashed with metal transfer. I want to stop but ....
BTW Strange had a great deal of interest in these SS rotors at PRI. I think you will see them released for sale in 2014

Don't Hesitate great pad. the more heat the better .

Not sure if my FB pictures will show up on DRR. I ran these test SS rotors for a few races ~20 runs and less than half full pull. The Gold pads B5020 really deposited a lot metal on them. They stopped OK, but I just want the best so I'll try the B5022.

Here's the rotors as removed

This is after a few hrs labor with a 60 grit Flapper wheel (on my die grinder) and a 40 to 80 grit DA on my Orbital sander.

Here's one of each of the 4 pads invoiced as "B5022" Strange sent with my shocks they rebuilt. Some kind of mix up was made an their end (they are correcting), but 2 of them had that copper look like the one on the right. Kind of looks like the B5020 but has the slot that the B5020 does not have. The one on the left is what I'm told is the B5022. Just need 2 more of these

Paul - Why is it only hitting on half the pad? Looks like possibly 2 of the pistons are not working properly?

You looking at the new pads, I roughed up to expose the material? If so they are new never used. I'll post a pic of the gold pads with 20 runs.

changed to the new floater style strange disk this summer part number on hat says b2794b-d 05/13 with 5020 pads only got 20 runs on them and seem fine . 4.9x/7.8x rail but next year will be faster , maybe 4.7x/7.5x ? The original one piece rotors had well over 1000 passes with no issues ...

Did you look at the rotors for metal transfer? Maybe you can snap a picture and post or email to me?
Every time I have seen the B5020 "gold" pad used the metal transfer happens fast.

No need for the pics now that you changed and said you had the Hawk pads. They do not do what the B5020 gold pads do. I ran those for many years. In fact they will clean up a set of rotors that have that metal deposit on them. The just don't stop as well as the gold.

Paul I made this change in brake pad B5022 as recommended by Strange for all the same problems you have listed. The car would not stop very weak, removed the pads put gold back on the car in the pits all good.Got no return on the brake pads from Strange. Hope this works for you but take gold pads with you.

Thanks N6560.

I'll prob take the Gold and the Hawks I ran. They Hawks worked OK and did not crap up the rotor. On the Gold the 1st or 2nd run before the metal is deposited the Brakes are unreal good, then they are just OK. Cleaning the metal off those rotors is a pain.

I'm going to try every pad made till I find the best. Big Grin

Paul

For me it got to the point that the gold pads work great but on lasted 40 to 50 runs so it was cheaper and smarter to sell them and get MW's. They stop better and the pads last!

BTW don't worry about the material transfer to the rotors with the gold pads.

Looks like Strange finally tweeked their rotor design to solve the stop sign effect also!

When it comes to this stuff you get what you pay for. The Stange stuff works but it has limits just like anything else.

Made a few 1/8 mile track licks today. B5022 are weak for sure when cold but seemed ok after they got hot. Hot or cold, not as agresive as the gold B5020, but the rotors stayed clean and I think this will be less maintance. In a few weeks I'll try them at PBIR full pull.

BTW I had replaced my springs and had my shocks rebuilt. My car 60' better then ever with my this current eng converter and initial shock settings. 1.06 on a 4.68@148 lick. I think my shocks have been bad a long time. I want to tighten up the compression next time out.

I had the same problems with the 5020 gold pads. I've been running strange b5010 the last few years as well as some DR97's. I hadn't heard of the 5022's but I think ill just order another set of 5010's they work just fine.

Where did you start on your shock settings? Still on the 2774's?
