I know there are a lot of guys on here that double enter races. What are you guys doing for coolers to keep the trans temp down? I was doubled with my son this past weekend and trans temp was 240+. I have a single cooler in front of the radiator -6 lines. Does anyone do two coolers? Does that help? Anyone do water to oil coolers?

I double almost every time out.

Rossler PG car weight is 3550 runs 5.7s@124MPH or 9.0-9.1@150MPH+

Have Racepak which I bought specifically to monitor trans temps. My routine is I get the motor to 180* before first run and let is soak. I get trans to at least 160 and let is soak.

In the lanes I will get trans to 150s. After burnout its usually few degrees hotter. During run it will only climb about 2* as I go down the track and another 20-25* on return road. This year I changed to ATI synthetic and saw a BIG BIG difference over Rossler recommended BMI Trick Shift. No other changes to cooler or routine.

At the end of the return road I will see 180-190*. Last year if I did not have much time I would see 210* after next run. This year I put on a jones pump.

I just have a single cooler and within 5 min I am back down to 150*. Repeat.

I will tell you that I changed from a "forget" brand cooler last year to a derale atomic cooler with built on fan. When I did my converter and stall changed A LOT! My reaction times and behavior of the car around the pits was a lot LOOSER feeling. I called Rossler thinking something was wrong and he said the previous cooler must have had more restiction which increased the converter circuit reducing the stall...I adjusted to the new stall and havent thought much about it since. My point is DONT put two in a row - Rossler during that discussion mentioned that will greatly increase pressures as an example to explain what I sorta was experiencing.

My recommendations: Good Cooler, good means to track temps, spread the runs about as much as possible, Jones Pump if you have to hot lap (less than 5 min). Oh and I am a believer in ATI transmission fluid after the swap and seeing overall how much cooler (less range) I am running.

I run two b&m super cooler up in front of the radiator, along with a oil thermostat. Makes for quick warm ups and maintains the temps very well. Without doing any special temp management procedure, it will maintain about 170 and varies +- 5 degrees on starting line.

Always double entered, 4000 rpm footbrake launch. 5500 transbrake launch. Ambient air temps in the summer over 100 degrees no issues with cooling. I thrashed it one night at a TNT, and made 7 passes in hour in 100 degree temps and never had any issues controlling temp.

Always ran the two coolers, but the thermostat made it better. With just the coolers, it would build 10-15 degrees but would usually end up over cooling it. With the thermostat, trans temp builds pretty easy just driving around, where before I had to get up on the converter several times. Was always fighting the cooling capacity without the thermostats. Now the coolers stay cooler and have more capacity to cool since they are below the trans temp.

When your bracket racing, you want excess cooling capacity, and be able to throttle back when you don't need it. Same reason I run an engine thermostat

I want to put out some data on how well the transmission temp thermostat works.

10 Passes in a 4 hour period. Double entered, Ambient temps ranged from 80-90 degrees.

I don't do anything special to maintain transmission temperature, it is totally done by the thermostat.

Rolling out of the staging lanes, temps are usually around 160-165. Starting line temperatures over 10 passes ranged from 172-174 degrees. After the pass, temp will get up to about 185 before it starts tracking back down.

There was between 10-15 minutes between my footbrake and box runs and 30-40 minutes between my box to footbrake runs. So it didn't seem to matter on hotlaps or when I actually had some time to cool.

I am very impressed by the temperature control. I feel this has tighten up the car consistency as well as my reaction time.

I have dual fans on the radiator, and I use them to maintain engine temp. The coolers sit in front of the radiator. But they have no dedicated fans.
