How would I figure out a decrease of say 7 pounds of rotating weight to normal weight. I hear alot of talk about " Ya but that's rotating weight" . Is there a formula to determine the difference?

Lets say I have different axles and they weigh 3.7 pounds a piece lighter.... What does that do overall for me?

I think the further from the axis the weight is, the bigger the effect. An axle may not make as much of a difference as a lighter wheel. Think Napoleon Dynamite and the tether ball. Shorter rope / same ball / not as resistant to spinning easily.

So...my drag radials are 14 lbs each heavier than my slicks. Using the formula above its like adding 140 lbs to the car?

yes,,,but remember that most radials are .10 quicker...

here is a scenerio,,,,I had 32 x 14.5W goodyears,,changed to 31.x 13.5 sodt sidewall hoosiers......the goodyears were about 20lbs heaver counting the difference in a 14 and 12 rim......height measured about the same due to the rim size......section width is nearly 4 inches different.....hoosiers are .15 quicker and 1.5mph faster in the 1/8......nearly NO DIFFERENCE in 60ft,,,,maybe .01 if any,,,,its all after she gets rolling

as an opinion,,,I wouldnt thing that the cost vs et would justify buying axles...even though it is rotating weight,,,,,there would be better spent money on other items unless thats the last place you can loose rotating weight,,,,,, if your looking for et,,,big gains are found in oil winnage,,,rims/tires///gears in the rear fitting correctly,,,gains in exhaust vs jetting/timing are cheap....

I had a set of stock alum rims and tires on a stocker,,,,I order a set of bogarts that weighed maybe 7 lbs with tires mounted,,,,.30 tenths !!!,,,gains in rotating weight show up the best in lower HP combos

The best way to cut down on rotating weight is to not turn your head (looking for your opponent)while going down the track!

I run 30x9 Hoosier radial slicks normally so it would comparing drag radials to radial slicks. I like to keep a set of both on hand so I can run street legal events. I didnt want the slicks sitting around all winter so I went with drag radials to finish the season and apparently it is showing up on the timeslip Frown
