Glide temp
Buddy of my new car to him. Glide temp was 250 after a pass. Any idea on what to look for. Gonna help him and pull the pan check the lines and fluid. Getting hot that fast i am pretty sure something is broke and or worn out,

I had a guy with a dragster I did a transmission for, it would go to 210 shortly after starting it at the track first time, in park.

He originally thought I did something wrong LOL!

I guess it made sense to him it wasn't the transmission, when I pointed out he never put it in gear LOL!

What do you think it was?

Same thing wrong with your buddy's, no I don't care how new it is, or who's it is.

Clutches are gone.

For reference, mine is 150-175, and has got to a MAX of 185 on a 110 degree day round robin.

Check pressure at the out cooler line. In Low or high gear ease it towards 2000, 2200 rpm's holding footbrake. If it try's to exceed 125-130psi easily before the engine rpm reaches 2,000,2200 rpm's, shut her down and call the converter company with pressure test & transmission temp gauge results.

It wouldn't move.

That's an altogether different thread title.

Where is the temperature sensor? In the pan there's a problem if it's correct. Non contact temp gun to verify would be good. Does it have a cooler?, is it working? Does the fluid smell burnt? Before you pull it check pressures.

The guy is new to racing. He bought this car turn key. So who knows what he really bought. Talked with him again he said they shift into high was sluggish. Gonna drop the pan and take a peak. I have a feeling it needs to be gone through. Temp sending uunit is in the pan.

Where should the gauge be at?

Sanity check the temp sensor, be a shame to do a bunch of work and find out it was a bad sensor or wire.

Absolutely. It could be a trashed transmission but I always check the cheap easy stuff first.

I'd put a pressure gauge on it first.

Anywhere in the pan. Placed in between pan bolts preferably.

Otherwise you're interrupted tightening the pan bolts using a socket, to fetch a wrench.

Thanks captn , I'll move inside the car Smile Mine is in the pan, I thought someone was saying that was not the right spot for it. Wasn't sure where the heck else it could go.

Some put a T in one of the cooler lines and screw the sensor in it. You'll really see some high temps which is why I asked where the sensor was.

Agree with Eman, i have seen 280+ degrees coming out of transmission, and the trans and converter were in perfect shape!

Oh wow, I'll bet that would be an eye opener.

I just replaced an Autometer one wire sensor for my engine oil temp. Was reading 260+* when in fact it was 200*. This sensor was new install 3 yrs ago. I replaced with a 10+ yr old one and corrected the reading to normal.

I use the same type sensor in the trans pan also

Where do you install the pressure gauge as was suggested? and what is the procedure to check Pressures ? Thanks.. I have a High pressure Gauge test kit that we used on Power steering pumps...Gauge is 0-400 I believe...
