As a follow up to my FYI thread last December where I found that my new for the 2016, Stant "radiator" cap made in mexico, installed on my Collector Tethers fill neck, was on the verge of failing with the tabs cracked and bent and the discussion that followed revealed that I was not alone and several here have had their cap fail...

With that style cap years ago on my mom's dragster, the thin metal name plate on the cap came off during a run and wedged in the throttle linkage on the side of the carb. Luckily it only held it at about half throttle, but still a weird deal and if I use that type cap, i pop that little name plate off before use.

Saw the same with a moroso cap about a month ago, however it came off during the run. Luckily they drove the car back in one piece.

I saw one of those Stant caps come off because of an ear that broke off. It was on an 8.0 door car in the lights. Lucky for him that he pulled the chute and got the car straight again.

I had one of those Lev-R-Vent caps on the fill spout on top of the engine and it self-destructed with the lever falling off…. I believe from the vibration.

FYI,

One of the 3 race cars I own had the radiator cap (16 lb) torn in the same exact way 1320 racers (Ed) did. Replace all 3 last night with 22 lb caps.

Glad I looked, and I will be checking more often now. Thanks for the insight Ed.

Double Thumbs up< !--graemlin::dbltup:-->

Ed,
I had the exact same cap on my car this year and at 400feet while looking over mine blew off with the same issue. We have now put two extra's in the trailer and will changed them after 3 months of racing from now on. Lucky I was 1/8th mile racing and it happened there.

I would not be loosing radiator caps.
1 this year(NEW) and 1 2 years ago. Two years ago it wasn't pretty @ 1000. Got the rack next to me also.

This has to be with engine harmonics is all i can figure.

I can now report that my new for the 2017 season, Moroso cap installed on my Collector Tethers fill neck has made it through the entire season without issue and I plan to reuse it for the 2018 season...

I bought a used hardtail dragster in 2001 that had a yellow plastic Perma-Cool radiator cap on it.

I'm still using that cap on my current dragster, 16+ years later.

I actually had another Stant fail on my water neck, changed water necks and the problem seems to have gone away but I have changed to a Mororso this year and will still change them every 3 months.
