Mufflers
I will need mufflers for the Studebaker project. What does the market hold that will keep the neighbors and police at peace as long as I am easy on the throttle? Yet, not be a big power loss at wide open.

I'm using a 3" Thrush chambered muffler on my 6.30 bracket car, not too loud. I ran it with open headers one time, only picked up about.05

Any straight through muffler like a Magnaflow, Dynomax Ultraflow, etc. the larger the case, the quieter it will be.

A good one is the Vortex by Cherry Bomb. They are rather open inside very little restriction, not too loud and a nice deep tone.

stay away from any bullet style muffler, you need a case style muffler but even they won't quit the tone much without some type of tail pipe

We put Flowmaster FlowFX's on our Camaro. With the LS motor and methanol, it's pretty quiet. Even on pump gas it's still very quiet and I would run the car without concern as far as neighbor's go.

About the neighbors, I have complained and called the police about loud dirt bikes and four-wheelers speeding around my neighborhood. Our neighborhood has young children playing, and some of the motorized riders disregard the safety of others. So, I must respect the neighbors and neighborhood.

I have the dynamax ultraflows on mine. They aren't loud, and sound great once you step on it. You can have a conversation while driving down the road, unlike the flowmasters that I had on it previously

Which flowmasters did you have? I know they have a couple that are as loud as any, but I also know they have some like the FX's we put on and the 50 series delta flow that are pretty quiet.. I went with the FX cause they were stainless and a "straight thru" design, as compared to the 50 series chambered and painted steel.

It's been a long time, but I think mine were 2 chamber 40 series, 3" exhaust, with mandrel bent system exiting in the stock location on my 69 Camaro

Seriously, check these out. There is very little restriction, good performance and nice sound. You can see by the design and by looking in them they do not hurt power much. I have had these and Flowmasters and I believe these Cherry Bomb Vortex are much better in every way. Flowmaster spent a lot of money advertising in all the HotRod type magazines but I am not impressed with their performance.
