Put my 2.200 throttle bore CFM carb from my 399” 15* motor on my new 436” 23* TRE motor and it’s really lean at idle. We ran the car last season with this set up and only had a chance to tune the main jetting. Motor sounds lazy and builds heat quick at idle. I run Q16... i just bolted on the carb that came with the motor (Steve Taylor 1150) and it sounds and revs a ton better, but it’s set up for C-16.

Anyone have a good starting point with my big carb...while I wait on Dale to get. Ack to me on Monday? Current set up:

Idle air: .076
Intermediate: .042
High Speed: .037
Jets: .129

Or...what should I do with the Steve Taylor 1150 to go from C-16 to Q16?

Thoughts?

FYI...this 23* deal ran within .02 of my 15* motor right out of the box!

One of us is missing info or I’m not understanding...

Idle air bleed: .076
Intermediate bleed: .042
High Speed Bleed: .037
It has .129 in all 4 corners for jetting

These are all pin gauge sizes.

Idle bleed is huge for Q..... I think you need about an .040. Leave the intermediate alone.

Those are the air bleeds you have listed which are on top of the carb.

What I asked about are the idle bleeds in the metering block and the carb body facing the metering block.

Update...These bottom fed fancy carbs are confusing. The Idle air bleeds and the intermediates are switched on this carb.

I talked to Dale and have a game plan to put a .032 HS and .135 jet back in it, put .039 Intermediates in it, .042 idle bleeds, and then drill the Idle feed restrictors from .032 to .035. He also educated me on how the transfer slots work and where to put the idle screws. LOL

I run a little different combo, usually .040-.042, idle air bleed in the .060 range, It cuts off the transition fuel sooner. It probably has wide body blocks, idle bleeds in the middle, intermediate outer.
