Will a hammertone powder coat chassis (dragster) cert to 6.0? Or did they limit it to 7.50?

I looked and could not find anything on the 2.5C chassis spec. If the hammertone is powder coat I don't see why not. I know a chrome plated cage will only go 7.50.

To be sure I would contact you local NHRA division office

I checked with the head D2 tech guy and he said no problem. I know at one point NHRA wouldn't cert a hammertone cage.....

It seems like I remember hearing a rumor of that rule change several years back. I have a 6.00 cert on our car with hammertone, and its never been mentioned or a problem.

Did they scrape off some powder coat to sonic test the thickness?

No scraping of the powder coat. I just had mine done again this past April and I have had the same car since 2005. Never had a problem.

Sorry for the slow response Bender. I don't get on here often enough apparently. To answer your question though, no. No powder coating has ever been scraped off during chassis cert.
