I'm tired of the pickup vibrating apart or falling off every 150-200 passes. This last time the pump itself broke right below the mounting boss, Is the Moroso Sportsman pump or Titan a good option here? Anyone with experience or tips chime in here. Thanks

Keith, I've got a Melling 10555 with a pickup from Kevko in my 416. Seems pretty stout, but I've only had it since the beginning of this year(about 120 passes).

Do your bearings look alright?

I'm assuming it's the old style melling with billet gears or a newer melling select? How about using a Milidon pump? Here is the link:

I've been useing This Pump for over 4 years now. Never any issues. Whenever I freasin up the motor I just pull the pump apart, look at it and put it back together.

If you buy a Titan it will be the last pump you ever buy...A friend has one and it has been on 3 different engines if I remember correct. Pressure is adjustable, no pickup to fall off and no gears galling the cover plate like some of the other billet pumps that use stock type gears. I broke a pump in half on my BB dragster....was at a race last year when a friend lost oil pressure on a run in a SB dragster....same thing pump broke in half after the burnout. I have seen pickups crack, break, fall off. Moroso started making theirs out of heavier material and braced them better. I added a brace on my last dragster(BB) to support the pump at the heavy bottom portion. Milodon sells that bracket and it helps but the pickups are still pretty vulnerable to vibrations. My present BB has a billet Moroso pump. Pressure is excellent all the time. Canton makes some nice stuff and so does Melling in the Select line if you want to stay with a stock type.

Keith, been there done that.
sorry for your troubles.
I run a Titan Sportsman pump in my 540. Great pump but it will not clear a stock GM pan. (at least BBC)
I would think any pump that has the screen/pickup part of the pump and a very thick base should do the trick.
The Moroso Billet pump like Charlie showed should clear the stock type pan. It still uses spur gears but so do all of the OEM style pumps that we have been using for years with pretty good success, as long as the pump body or pickup does not fail.
The Titan is a georotor, and it will move some oil. Eek Lots of oil! Wink
Best of luck, which ever you choose.

Because time was a problem (trying to get ready for Vegas Div. race) and I have an odd depth pan I went with the same pump for now because I could get it quickly with the proper pickup already welded in place but when I take it apart this winter to service it I'm probably going to try that Moroso billet just because it has no pickup to fall apart. I'm sure this pump should last 25-30 passes.
