Your new Starret bore gauge is made in China. LOL
I have a spare Sunnen DBG and Sunnen setting tool for sale. $1650.00 for both in original wooden boxes. Cal date on both are from Feb. this year Made in the USA. Good tools don't loose their value.
As long as a certain percentage of the components are made in the USA they can claim Made in the USA.

Ive seen the chink Starrett stuff in the flyers, it all looks funny and has oddball part numbers. Im sure they still make the usual Athol stuff but added the chink line to compete with the traitors, cheapskates, and commies.

As far as bore gauges go.... I own Diatest stuff. Never cared for the setting fixtures, prefer to wring together my Croblox, if for no other reason than whats the point of having a set of Croblox if ya cant whip em out and lay em on the bench on occasion...

If Sunnen had the variety of split rings and and heads id have Sunnen. For job specific tooling, theres nothing even in the same category. My Diatest stuff has to be treated like jewlery, ive seen Sunnen gauges bounce off concrete and not move 10 millionths. Much less move a tenth or two from body heat.

I couldn't live without setting fixtures. I am sure that it increases my accuracy 10 fold.

Who's not using a setting fixture? Confused

Micrometer in a vise, is a setting fixture. Fact!

I say of the *fairly* high quality dial bore gages discussed in here, my choice is the Mitutoyo. The Japs have been good allies. Probably the best we have.

Looks like they've DQ'd that gage - 2922-8, it wouldn't bother me having it though. How much are you asking for it?

It’s like 511-741 but a little better case. $200 plus the ride.
