Ok im sure this has been brought up many times before, but here goes, wanting to step up and run T/D, so who has a good reliable system? Thinking of taking a step to the dark side and have read alot on the stuff, but want to hear from people who have first hand experience with nitrous systems on a conv head BBC, and what is recommended for the engine to last?

Engine is a 565 bbc, Dart block, scat crank, manley h beam rods, JE srp pistons around 14-1 comp, Dart 360 heads w/titanium valves (which im am hopefully changing the heads this winter) brodix sonnys cast manifold and a holley 1050 Dom. jesel valvetrain, has all the good stuff, but doesnt make **** for power thats why we're possibly having the heads changed. Thats another question whats a good conv head?

Thanks Shawn

All the bs you posted on the T/D thread and come to find out you have an turd 565 (by your own admission). My suggestion is keep the heads (360's have a thicker casting than others) and buy a blower.

Shrekracer, I clicked on your name and reread your posts before making that post. Maybe you should reread them yourself.

Shawn, how much are you looking to hit it with? Your best bet is to do a Direct Port (Fogger). Costs the most, but it is the most easily tuned setup. You can buy Plate Systems that will go up to 400hp but you never know how the distribution of the A/F mixture will be. A Direct Port won't give you those issues. If for some reason you have something strange with your heads, you can always fine-tune individual cylinders with the Direct Port very easily. To to that type of tuning with a Plate won't be easy and with some it is impossible.

thanks Mike, that seems to be a better situation, ive had people say just bolt a plate on it, but never have they said that you can fine tune it well...

And thanks for others that have helped,

Depending on what pistons you have, you may be limited to around 200hp of nitrous.
So a plate system will work just fine.

You're going to have to look at the entire combo you have. I don't know how much nitrous you will need to use to be competitive. Usually once you try to gain more than 100hp on nitrous your convertor and gear selection become an issue. IE: If you are going through the traps at close to your peak rpm now, even a 100hp shot is going to put you over the top by at least 500rpm or so. That number will also be affected by your convertor....

I have a heavy door car for Bracket Racing. I purposely did not fully maximize the combo simply so I could have fun with a little juice from time to time. I run around 10.3's @ 133+ going though at 6600rpm. That same engine could easily go 9.8's going through the traps at 7500rpm.

Now, I have been up to .030's in my Direct Port, convertor stall went from 5500 to 6500, traps rpm has gone from 6600 to 7500, ET's have been high 8's @ 153mph+, and I still have another 500rpm to go before I start to worry....

After that, I will need a tighter convertor and less gear, but since it is a Bracket Car I need to leave it the way it is so I can Foot Brake it and still hit the tree. Wink

Soooo........What I'm saying is this: If you want to run fast all the time, you will need to re-think your over-all combo and ET goals.

I hope to let you know how a plate kit works next week. I bought one for my digger, that has a 565 in it in hopes of picking it up from mid 7.40's to maybe some 7.1 or 7.2's only spraying 150-200hp for 3 sec (so I can still have some over ride for the stripe). This is what I believe will work to get me where I need to be. Good luck and I'll let you know how mine does.

Danny, I'd like to take a guess and say 200hp for 3 seconds, early in the run might dip you into the 6.90's. I plan on doing the same thing for my American this winter, but strictly for the stripe. Let us all know how it goes. What kit did you buy?

Ryan, I bought an Edelbrock RPM II plate kit from a buddy of mine who built a new car, got tight on $$$ and started selling off stuff so I bought it at a good deal. After doing some research, I think this kit will do what I need it to do. I'll be suprised if it will go that fast, but would be very pleased. I plan to stick the 6,000 converter in it and go out about .75 before I turn it on.

I'm undecided. I think the Big Shot kit 200hp setting and just on a button should give me .02 needed at the stripe. I may install a timer. sure is nice that Mark & travis put a WOT switch already on the car
